Levin has been in a state of perpetual sulk since Election Day. Am finding him impossible to listen to.

He has become the literal embodiment of allowing the perfect to be the enemy of the good.

It is also true that they used tariffs at the time, after the Constitution was adopted, because they didn't have an income tax, and in part, those tariffs were necessary to fund the federal government. But they weren't for the purpose of empowering far-off Washington bureaucrats and politicians to manipulate the economy.

Part of this is simply not factually true: tariff policies were always used to benefit domestic political constituencies.

His comments about TR also strike me as wrong: for the most part, TR emphasized the bully pulpit, not the bully regulation. And he was responding to one of the worst episodes of crony capitalism in American history.

I shared the opinion of most on this website that the defeat of the Clinton crime cabal was far more important than a candidate’s strict fealty to a rigorous set of conservative ideals, so I supported and voted for Donald Trump in the general election. His biggest supporters around here insisted, against all evidence, that Trump was going to rule as a small government conservative; and if he didn’t they would rise up and oppose him on any big government liberal programs if he proposed them, though they were sure he wouldn’t.

Well now he is proposing a trillion dollar stimulus package, exactly the big-government way Obama kicked off his Administration. Actually, bigger. A trillion dollars taken out of the free market and handed to our bloated and corrupt federal government. And the post-conservative personality cult cheers it as a… a what? I have no idea, and neither do they, but they love it! It’s a great idea! Trump will get it done!

I support Trump overall, but I am not blinded by the mythic silliness that surrounds him. Like I have for every political candidate before him, I will support his conservative, small government positions and call him out on his big-government boondoogles, like a trillion dollar infrastructure bomb. There are conservative alternatives to such programs – proven conservative alternatives that get infrastructure built and gets Americans working again, without the bloat and corruption endemic to federal government control.

Levin’s article, which most of you clearly did not read, is a defense of “individualism, capitalism, constitutionalism, and Americanism” - things that used to be paramount around here. It would be nice to return to that on an individual proposal and policy basis. Support ideals, not personalities.

Levin, is a moron. He has been self elevated to genius status and many of you have fallen for it.

Levin is WRONG on many fronts. Just because he says it, doesn’t make it true.

His Convention of the States proposal is a DISASTROUS idea.

His position on presidential eligibility is IGNORANT.

His opposition to Trump is DELUSIONAL.

His insulting of callers is CONDESCENDING and RUDE.

Mark Levin is an empty suit AND an empty chair.

It’s not that he isn’t smart. It’s that he is desperately insecure, which drains intelligence from his brain lobes. He was so very wrong and he is still doubling down on wrong. He hisses and spits and falls over each time Trump walks by. I heard a fragment of his show the other day. Who would willingly listen to that screaming? It’s as unpleasant as Hillary and about as insightful.

This amounts to ‘Levin spin’ to try and make you believe he is still relevant. The labels he attaches to Trump’s common sense approach to running this country are old non-applicable straw men, which he resurrects from the past to serve his continuing criticism of Trump’s amazing movement. He essentially is telling half the population of the country who voted for Trump that they are idiots and he is “The Great One.” None of his constructs fairly describe Trumpism, which boils down to nothing more than using basic common sense, which the people of this land generously possess, but the know-it-alls totally lack. None of his chosen terms fit the current movement and he knows it. He dwells in the past, refusing to realize that time has passed him by.

Well now the Right has what the Left has always had. Over educated talkign heads who want to pronounce anathema on words and phrases. On the Left, they want to dismiss ideas they cannot argue with as “racist”, “sexist” or “homophobic”.

Now the Right those who want to dismiss ideas they cannot debate as being “populist”, “nationalist” or “Americanism”.

I disagree with Levin on the sum and substance of what he wrote, based upon this alone: Words, and especially political labels, change meaning over time.

Examples: Gay used to mean happy, joyful, and ecstatic. Now it means homosexual. Regulated used to mean maintained and appointed with adequate supplies (e.g., a Well-Regulated Militia). Now it means to be controlled by laws and regulations.

Whatever populism meant in Levin’s citations, the modern definition has changed. It now means to be for people and their rights.

Whatever nationalism meant in Levin’s citations, the definition has changed. It now means to be for nation-states (especially America) and against globalism.

I shall continue to use those words in their modern context.

To now say that we need a trillion-dollar infrastructure program, to now say that we need to further regulate our economy, which is heavily regulated with over 12,000 tariffs, to now say that that's what the working men and women of America need? That that's what's going to give us the shot in the arm to create American jobs? This will be disastrous, as it always has been, as it always will be.

Free Traitor™ lies. We may have hundreds maybe thousands of tariffs on the books but the rates are set so low( Thank you K Street. /sarc) that the USA collects about 1% in duties on imports. 1%. A big nothing burger.

The fact is O "Great One", we need more consumption based income including tariff income and less income from income taxes. Not only do tariffs raise revenue, tariffs have another advantage over income taxes because they are not progressive in any way. Some say they are even mildly regressive. Tariffs also promote domestic industry. Thank me.
