Operation Drain the Swamp has begun. Vice President-elect Mike Pence reportedly ordered the removal of all lobbyists from president-elect Donald Trump's transition team.

‘Trump is not a politician.”
You hit the nail squarely on the head. It’s why he was elected.
His swamp draining process will involve many things that may seem unorthodox or shocking. After all, IMO, lobbyists are a part of the problem.
You’re in a massive trade deficit because your Government has punished wealth production by every conceivable means.
Imposing tariffs would be the last act of insanity: growing government, impoverishing efficient producers and featherbedding incompetent ones.
A tax on money sent by illegals back to Mexico - I can get behind that. We all can. But any other taxes would depress legitimate wealth creation.
President Trump needs to break the barriers to wealth production, not raise new ones.
Corporate tax rates. Crippling environmental law. Ludicrous legal vulnerability. Anticompetitive legislation dreamt up by lobbyists. It all needs to go.
Levin still has some sour grapes - can’t do everything all at once and there will be a lessening as time goes on. Hopefully our side will bask in the progress and not head south because not every one of them will have all tier hopes come true - still a lot of “all or nothing” types trying to throw the wet towel on the embers ...
The wormed tongued Free Traitors must be purged from the Trump administration or the coalition he built will fall apart almost immediately.
First, we ought to recognize the distinction between exporting jobs by way of the Internet to India and exporting manufacturing jobs, for example, to China on the one hand and imposing tariffs on legitimate imports that honestly compete on the other hand.
Second, we ought to at least have some understanding of whether it is "globalization" that is causing the malaise in the American economy or whether it is mostly regulations and taxes. There is a great weight of opinion that insists that it is the latter and not the former. If we do not know what is causing the problems we simply don't know how to fix it.
Heretofore, the problem has not been a one of tariffs, in my judgment, but a want of diligence in enforcing the treaty rules. Even where we are up against foreign courts who may be be biased, we have not exhausted or even pursued our remedies. We have not jawboned and we have not effectively used are considerable weight as a consumer nation. That we should do but that is an entirely different matter from willy-nilly imposing tariffs.
Before we punish our own consumers, tax our own economy with tariffs, punish our own exporters by guaranteeing retaliatory tariffs, we ought to know what the hell we are talking about. And we certainly ought not to act in reflex.
Now that is funny right there. Are you on crack?
I would prefer the tariff, which is optional and consumption based, over the income tax which IMO a form of punishmsnt.
Compare the cost of building new plant in the states - especially in California! - with any other country on earth. There's a huge barrier to entry just from employment and environment regulations. And that's before we factor in the US corporate tax rate, the massive legal vulnerability if employers try to fire the wrong people - and the enormous employment costs added by Obamacare.
Big Government Totalitarians ™ are trying to convince us that tarriff walls, punitive taxation and regulation are a good idea.
They must be purged from the Trump administration or it will crash and burn.
Free Traitors need to get over themselves and acknowledge the fact that a President who will to protect US industry by any means just got elected.
We need to cut regulations, taxes AND increase import tariffs 3% a year until the trade deficit goes to zero. Trump won so get on board or go away.
I am sure the media will be cheering this move.
Pray America woke
If George Washington was alive today he would challenge you to a dual for saying that. George was a radical protectionist. And thank God for it.
So tell us genius will the blue collar types in MI,WI,PA and OH vote again for Trump if we once more go down the suicidal globalist Free Traitor path?
Wise words, nathanbedford. But likely to be disputed here at good old FR. Most here believe it will be the Chinese paying those tariffs.
Keep the messaging up. You are good at it.
CryptoMarxists need to understand that government is the single largest barrier to wealth production.
They want government to choose winners and losers in the market place, because power over the means of production is literally how totalitarian states work.
Fortunately Trump already understands this.
Come on, the primaries are over.
What makes you think that being for tariffs has anything to do with cutting regulations and taxes? I am for cutting all regulations and taxes to the bone. But that is not enough. All of those things need to be done including tariffs. No half measure.
The only crypto Marxist talking about free trade agreements anymore are Obama and a few throw backs on Free Republic
Cutting corporate taxes and reducing regulations on businesses will go a long way towards eliminating the market for lobbyists.
Our first President would disagree with you. If a trade war means we no longer buy foreign things that we can make ourselves, bring it on. It sounds like you believe in and support globalism. Many conservatives, like myself, do not. Bring on long overdue tariffs that support the American worker!
