So, here we stand on the brink of the Presidential election in 2016 with what very well might be the last hope for the Republic, and for reasons nobody seems to quite understand, today the FBI dropped a bombshell on the Clinton campaign.

The BIG QUESTION is Why? Why Now? The obvious answer, that the FBI found additional evidence of criminality on the part of Hillary!® or her minions, flunkies, and stooges is, to say the least, preposterous. Anyone with the IQ of a mollusk has known Hillary!® is as guilty as Benedict Arnold, the Rosenbergs, Aldrich Ames, … OK, pick your favorite (or least favorite) traitor as the case may be. James Comey knew it, too. But after slamming Hillary!® non-stop in his press conference, he ultimately backed off on recommending indictment with his famously tortured reinvention of the espionage statute.

So, she was off the hook. What’s happened?

Here are some theories. Please add your own.

Theory 1: Another agency (or Agency) has been able to verify that someone does indeed have all of the Clinton emails, and has given the FBI the heads up that a shoe is about to drop, and they’d better get ahead of this before the proverbial poop pummels the propeller.

Theory 2: There really are some people left at the Bureau with some integrity, and they’ve threatened to go live. Comey’s calculation then becomes: what hurts more, high profile resignations and or/whistleblowing and all the damage that goes with that, or defenestrating Her Thighness? (That’s “throwing under the bus,” for the illiterate DU’ers lurking here.) No doubt senior FBI officials spilling the beans could hurt Comey, The FBI, the Administration, and Clinton a lot more than today’s FBI statement. And seen in this light, the decision is simple damage control: the best way to put a lid on the insiders threatening Comey is to throw them a small bone that’s going to amount to nothing in a few weeks. And Hillary, like Sauron, “can deal with the little people later.”

Theory 3: The revelations that over a million dollars were laundered to the Deputy Director of the FBI through his wife’s unsuccessful state senate bid was just more than even the corruptocrats at DOJ could stand. [Right. OK. I know, I know. Over 90% of the people at DOJ have donated to or openly support Clinton, so this theory is about as dead on arrival as the Phlogiston theory of Combustion. I mean, really, a woman who can stand up in front of the country and claim that her 30 years in public service – which have netted her and her corrupt family a quarter of a billion dollars -- have been a “sacrifice,” simply has no shame. And neither does anyone who supports her. Still, just throwing it out…]

Theory 4: The folks handling the Weiner investigation actually did discover some things, and given how ridiculous the whole probe into Anthony Weiner was, these folks may have been lower level agents who haven’t yet been “made men” in The Clinton Global Crime Family. As a result, what they found on Huma Abedin’s computer threatened to reveal some of the things that Comey and the more senior FBI agents and DOJ lawyers had already deep-sixed with their generous immunity deals and deliberate spoliation of evidence. Again, as with Theory #2, today’s announcement is simply a way to get a lid on the new evidence, destroy it, and let the whole thing blow over. [And if you threw up in your mouth a little bit at either or both of the phrases “Weiner investigation” or “Probe into Anthony Weiner,” you are most certainly not alone, believe you me.]

Theory 5: This is basically an extrapolation of the position taken by Ed Klein in his book Guilty as Sin in which he paints a very sympathetic picture of James Comey: Straight shooter, family man, devout Catholic.

All the Good Stuff.

According to Klein, Comey was allowed to run a full, complete, and straight-up investigation of Hillary Clinton. In the meantime, 0bama was leveraging this investigation against Hillary!® behind the scenes. He really does hate the Clintons, and he tried desperately to get Joe Biden to run, and failing that attempted to persuade Fauxcahontas (or is it Lie-a-watha?) Anyway, Joe is too old, too tired, and too devastated by the death of his son, and Princess Cherokee-Cheekbones is not really much of a politician and was not the least bit interested in getting in the oncoming headlights of the Clinton Smear Machine. When he realized he wouldn’t be able to get either of them – or anyone else of standing -- on board he told Lynch to shut down the FBI investigation.

In Klein’s theory, Lynch told Comey that if he recommended indictment, she would try the case in such a way that Hillary would be acquitted. The result, anathema to Comey’s sensibilities, would be that he and the Bureau would be disgraced, having inserted himself and a supposedly apolitical law enforcement organization into a presidential race running full throttle in a partisan manner, and that from the acquittal Hillary would emerge inoculated from future examination, and stronger than ever.

This theory explains why Comey took the unprecedented step of laying her guilt out before the whole world only to pull back the football with a bizarre legal theory at the last moment. And it might explain today’s announcement: he’s been trying to do the right thing all along, without having any legal apparatus behind him. This theory explains a lot, but it has problems, not the least of which is Comey’s dubious clearing of the Clinton Global Crime Family on two previous occasions, and the financial connections he and his family have enjoyed to “The Foundation.”

Personally, I think a lot of Klein’s argument makes sense, but frankly is too clever by half. I think the part about 0bama wanting somebody else is true. I think the part about him allowing the investigation to go on to pressure both Clinton (to not run) and her potential rivals (to run) is also true. And certainly the part about telling Lynch to pull the plug – if he even needed to – is true as well. But I stop right there, because I believe Comey has been in on The Fix from the git-go.

So, what think you, fellow insomniacs and deep thinkers? Is James Comey a latter-day Thomas More, hoping to tightrope walk the damning moral hazard on one side of the abyss and the dangerous personal consequences for himself on the other? Or is he Thomas Cromwell, the kind of corrupt enabler that every tyrant requires?

Personally, I believe it’s the latter; and I believe that whatever motivates today’s announcement, it has been done for one reason and one reason only: someone higher up the food chain than Hillary Clinton is potentially exposed by new revelations, and this is the least damaging way to make them go away. And hey, a country that elected He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Middle-Named twice, might just go ahead and elect Hillary in spite of all the criminality.

Didn't mean it was same type of issues, just that is was a major turning point in Water Gate. When Nixon started the firings he basically crossed a line and there was no turning back. He was trying to subvert the justice system.

Hillary on the other hand has already tried to subvert the system with the personal server and the deletion of evidence but she did so in a way that she has nearly got away with it. The funny part is that if she does lose the election and/or is convicted history will show it was a "Weiner Device" that was her demise.

So maybe the proper term is Weiner Massacre... hahahah

Where has that been established? Because the investigation has been reopened?

Preet Bharara is supposedly a good guy (well...That was allegedly true of James Comey, and we now know how untrue that was.)

We know very little of verifiable substance about either of those men. Suspicions at this point.

But Bharara has gone after some very high profile Dems in New York State and brought them down

US Attorneys do that. Unless they are told not to. You know that is not a factor in their character quotient.

I can't believe the people behind this cover-up can be happy that other agencies have seen the things they granted immunity and destruction of evidence in order to conceal.

I doubt they're happy, too, but I also doubt the instructions from above will not be passed on if needed by a high ranking administrator to middle management to be followed by a city investigator exactly as they are spelled out by his superiors. It's an organizational thing.

All I'm saying is I'm doubtful NYPD is holding the kind of trump I was hoping they did.

It makes sense that Obama is orchestrating this to rid the world of the Clinton machine, allowing him to step into the breach. This would only happen if it is clear that Hillary cannot win in which case he needs leverage with Trump. Wheels withing wheels....

Someone made the referral that there was material pertinent to a Federal investigation on a cellphone and/or computer NYPD had obtained voluntarily from Huma Abedin. That is how this came to the FBI.

True. However, keep in mind that the Founders (correctly) understood that good government could achieved both by compounding virtue and confounding vice. Bharara's ambitions may be as important to the outcome as his need to be a good soldier.

The fix was in before the investigation started.

Surely it was. But (at least according to Klein) it was Lynch's decision, not Comey's to do that. Impaneling a GJ could have happened after some of the inquiries were made by the FBI. Like any other LEO, the FBI can gather evidence without subpoenas.

Clinton is so corrupt, and reckless, her anti-Americanism has now busted her. These are sloppy traitors. So sloppy in fact that even a corrupt administration can’t cover all their tracks. You can bet they’re feverishly trying to minimize exposure and impact on the establishment’s Washington Cartel.

Friend opined this was a way for Obama to have Hillary “bow out” -— of course, suspending the election until a “suitable” Democrat could be conjured up (my term there).

Obama is unequivocally implicated. He knew about her private server all along. You don't need documentary proof, just common sense (.gov vs .com, duh!). This has been obvious since the controversy first arose.

but wouldn't his best defense be to see her elected? How on earth would it help him to have Trump at the helm government, controlling the FBI and DOJ?

Absolutely. If she's elected, she can pardon him, appoint the AG, etc. If Trump is elected, the FBI proceeds as usual, and a bunch of 'Rats are likely going to the can.

Another theory is that they're sure Clinton is going to lose and Comey is kicking CYA-mode into high gear already, but considering how tight this election will probably be, with the fraud and everything else, this seems awfully premature.

That is likely the correct theory. Clinton is not 50 points ahead, and the downside of her losing for Comey is unacceptable. He put his ear to the ground and realized the polls were likely wrong, that Clinton was headed for a loss. So, he moved to make it a for-sure loss! To drive a stake thru Dracula's heart!

The two posts below have to be what is going on. You can be sure right now that the regime is trying their best to wrestle all the info they can from the NYPD probably with the mayor’s help as well.
This will be a real test for the NYPD to see if they are corrupt or not.If not we will see President Trump. If they are corrupt the nation is finished.

I think your theory is mostly right, but I’ll stir in one curious fact. This Wiener investigation? It’s not the FBI in charge of it. It’s special crimes unit of the NY City cops. When they put the search and seizure papers into the mix....they went to the apartment and took ALL computers (to include the wife’s computer/laptop). They have access to all kinds of inside info. The FBI can’t control that investigation or the effect of a grand jury operation. Just one single hint of hidden money or overseas accounts, or bribes for favors....and it drags people in front of a grand jury (city operation, not federal).

Comey, I think, is stuck. The NY City cops have absolute control over this mess.

Go look at the whole control issue. The FBI had absolute control over every single part of this email server deal, since day one.

The Weiner episode? Never was a federal crime and the FBI didn’t care. When that search warrant got served....they took every computer in that apartment. Hillary’s staff should have grasped reality at that point, and gotten the FBI heavily involved to ensure nothing happened. They screwed up.

So, if there is any suggestion in an email by Weiner’s wife of a pay-off or promised job, or secret dealings, it’s not controlled by the FBI anymore, the NY City cops have it. They can run it through a grand jury (city not federal) and get their own charges.

If I were Huma and all happy over the promises of no federal charges because I cooperated with them over X, Y and Z....well, now it’s changed. She has to worry that the NY City grand jury will call for charges and that FBI deal is utterly worthless over this new information. If they can grab Huma....they can grab Hillary. The FBI in this case now....is a non-player.

Its naive to think that Comey is anything other than compromised.NO way the Chicago thugocracy would have anyone in their administration at the higher levels that they can’t control. CIA, Att. Gen,IRS, you name it they are all pawns of the regime. It’s naive to think that Comey wasn’t as well.
That being said val/jar is most likely behind the scenes trying to make sure that zero gets no repercussions on this one as well.
As I said before this will be a real test of the NYPD. Are they corrupt or will Blasio threaten them to yield to higher powers or feel the heat?
Fortunately,all parties involved,hillary,obama crime families have told so many lies along the way that the entire scenario will become incredibly complex and sooner or later they will start stumbling on the enormous amount of whoppers they have told to various institutions.

In reality she’s not liked by a bunch of people in the democrat circles. The old adage goes “ democrats fall in love, republicans fall in line” has been flopped this year. They are holding their noses big-time on this one. This will most likely hurt her but the media spin masters have been up all night scheming a talking point.

I believe that they will present hitlery as a victim and it won’t wash with the people trying to put food on their table, especially those with young daughters.
We might see some young fat girl in ads as damage control.
