Aboard a US military aircraft (AFP) - A Russian fighter flew dangerously close to a US warplane over eastern Syria, US defence officials said Friday, highlighting the risks of a serious mishap in the increasingly crowded airspace.
The near miss occurred late on October 17, when a Russian jet that was escorting a larger spy plane manoeuvred in the vicinity of an American warplane, Air Force Lieutenant General Jeff Harrigian said.
The Russian jet came to "inside of half a mile", he added.
Another US military official, speaking on condition of anonymity , said the American pilot could feel the turbulence produced by the Russian jet's engines.
"It was close enough you could feel the jet wash of the plane passing by," the official said.
It appeared the Russian pilot had simply not seen the US jet, as it was dark and the planes were flying without lights.

Wouldn’t that be a ‘near hit’?................
Hillary wants to start WWIII
Near ‘miss’ or a near ‘collision’? Some terms make no sense.
The Russian jet was escorting another Russian jet. They are on a mission. We try to surveil them and a near collision occurs? And it’s their fault?
Sounds to me like perhaps the American jet is the one that got too close.

. Try as he will. O hasn’t yet succeeded in provoking WW3. Pray we get thru the next couple months safely.
Here’s a phrase that apparently the airlines simply made up: near miss. They say that if 2 planes almost collide, it’s a near miss. BS, my friend. It’s a near hit! A collision is a near miss.
[WHAM! CRUNCH!]
“Look, they nearly missed!”
“Yes, but not quite.

I would still like to know under what constitutional authority our forces are being deployed and fighting under...
Didn’t see it??? Yeah like radar has never been invented. Unless the Russkie was on an intel flight , signal intercept, testing air defense systems, there is no way the pilot was flying eyes only. Someone in DC had better get Barky under control before we are in an actual shooting fracas with the Rusdians. Syria is of zero importance to the US. Israel, the most threatened by Syria does not want Assad replaced since they believe he is not an idiot who would start a war and that while he accepts Iranian support he knows his time will end abruptly if he attacks Israel. So if the Israelis are not threatened and the Russians are only interested in a half a$$ port why is this so important to Barky? Maybe the Sauds have something to do with it. But someone has to tell him to let go before it gets completely out of hand.
I argue this with safety professionals all the time. It’s a near hit end of argument.
Obama is there illegally. He is letting Isis call the shots.....literally.
I know reading the article is frowned upon at FR, but you didn't even have to click through to the original. It was in the excerpt:

Must be like when a glass is half full or half empty - optimist or pessimist.
But article says it happened over Eastern Syria. There should be a no fly zone over Syria, unless it’s a Russian, or Syrian govt aircraft.
Language alert.
Obviously it was a near hit, as a near miss would be a hit.
