On Catholics, Wikileaks Hits Paydirt
Powerline Blog ^ | October 12, 2016 | John Hinderaker

In general, I think most of the alleged Wikileaks scandals of recent days have been overblown. But the way in which Hillary Clinton’s top staffers talk about Catholics is a relatively serious matter. The email thread involves Hillary’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, her director of communications, Jennifer Palmieri, and John Halpin of the Center for American Progress, which was also Podesta’s and Palmieri’s home as of the date of the emails, April 11, 2011. Click to enlarge:

This is the exchange. It starts with Halpin’s astonishingly arrogant comments:

Ken Auletta’s latest piece on Murdoch in the New Yorker starts off with the aside that both Murdoch and Robert Thompson, managing editor of the WSJ, are raising their kids Catholic. Friggin’ Murdoch baptized his kids in Jordan where John the Baptist baptized Jesus.

Many of the most powerful elements of the conservative movement are all Catholic (many converts) from the SC [Supreme Court] and think tanks to media and social groups.

It’s an amazing bastardization of the faith. They must be attracted to the systematic thought and severely backwards gender relations and must be totally unaware of Christian democracy.

Jennifer Palmieri responds:

I imagine they think it is the most socially acceptable politically conservative religion. Their rich friends wouldn’t understand if they became evangelicals.

The condescension is quite remarkable. Halpin wraps up the conversation:

Excellent point. They can throw around “Thomistic” thought and “subsidiarity” and sound sophisticated because no one knows what the hell they’re talking about.

As far as we can tell, there is no particular point to this conversation. Just a little evening dumping on conservative Catholics. It reveals, I think, how most liberals think–the narrow-mindedness, the ignorance, the condescension, the arrogance. There are still some Catholic Democrats, but frankly, I am not sure why.

And Catholics both rank and file and elites of the Church, continue their blind support of dems.

Well, not in this house. Nevertheless the Catholic hierarchy has been running interference for Democrats for so long it is perfectly sickening.

The democraps will legislate their religion right out of existence, and Hillary’s supreme court will rubber stamp it. It is well past time for the faithful to take a stand and vote for politicians that support real “ Freedom of Religion”.

These people sound soooooo ignorant. Are they all as ignorant as Shrillary? Shrillary is as dumb as a box of rocks, as a bag of hair, as a weed. The stroke-damaged, rum-soaked fatty couldn’t even pass the DC bar exam.

They should all pray for some of the grace that is bestowed on Catholics.

Catholic Spring? Along the lines of the Arab Spring? As in ruination?

Change that to “some” Catholics & I will agree with you. As a thankful Catholic I am please to report in our parish of a gazillion families we have yet to see a pro-Cankes bumper sticker in the church parking lot...so far.

In the past Catholic immigrants were hardly treated with respect by the Republican party. The first Republicans saw among their members the original Know Nothings. Most city Dems cared little for Catholics except for their vote so they saw the influx of Irish, Polish, Italians as voters to be nurtured. The GOP and the mailine Protestant Church leaders saw these new arrivals as endangering the fabric of the Republic. Quite naturally they became stalwarts of the
Democrats. As their next generations prospered and moved out of the cities, many, particularly Italians became suburban Republicans. But many were and still are put off by the remaining anti Catholic vibes emanating from the GOP’s Evangelicals. For some the term papist never went out of style.
The new Catholic influx is latino and many of them see the GOP in the same way earlier as did European Catholic immigrants.

Right. So much so, I don’t want to be Catholic anymore.

My Country is more important than any religion.

If you ask me they are already a tool of the state. Catholic Charities accepts plenty of money to aid illegal aliens.
