Coming up, an article by Reuben Ben Abraham of Los Angeles California. A senior member of the New England Alliance for Liberty and Free markets and a brilliant economist in the Austrian school gives us this insight in the superiority of the capitalist system over socialism...
The article I am typing now deals with traits that show the superiority of capitalism, inspired by an incident that took place at a McDonalds restaurant one morning that illustrates capitalism.
Anyway, this first incident I want to illustrate took place at McDonalds restaurant in Wilshire Boulevard across from Ross Department store and California Pita. Normally I don't eat at Mickey D but today I was in a hurry. The drive through was full so I parked and walked in. The lobby wasn't really full.
I wanted to get coffee and a biscuit and take off but I had to wait for 5 minutes in line. There were only 3 people ahead of me but the Cashier, a snotty looking teenager was slow and taking his time and he even got orders wrong for one customer. When the customer ahead of me came forward and ordered, he gave him $20 and instead of giving him the $13.45 he owed him gave hm $3 instead.
When the customer told him his error he said that it was the wrong the cashier told him that it was. As a witness I knew this was not so but for the time being I kept quiet to see if the cashier would get it right and give him the money. An argument instead ensued and the manager, a rather ugly brute ra instead of investigating automatically took the cashier's side. The customer threatened to call the police if he was not refunded his money. They refused to give him a refund. I then stepped forward along with another customer behind me to take the man's side.
They then gave him the refund and told him not to come back. "Nothing wrong with that!" Said he. When he left I then walked up and told the manager and cashier that I would not be patronizing anymore McDonalds restaurant until he and the idiot at the register were fired. I also told them I worked with the Chamber of Commerce and would warn others about what had transpired so as not to have the same thing happen to them. The manager shouted at me to "Get the hell out then!"
So that's what I did. I also informed corporate of the incident and informed them that unless amends were made to this situation and I saw proof that the manager and cashier faced disciplinary actions, I would never patronize a McDonalds restaurant as long as I lived.
Corporate responded in two ways, first to apologize for my unfortunate experience. They then told me that the matter was under investigation that multiple complaints were made. Second, they sent me a gift card worth $50.
2 weeks later, card in hand I went back to the McDonalds in question and found a new manager and cashier. Both of them were Mexicans so I guess cashier and store manager are jobs no one wants to do.
See, this situation played itself out well because McDonalds is a corporate franchise run by and for profit. When this incident took place, their profits were threatened. By making the displeasure of the customers well known to the corporate and managerial tier, the customer voiced opinion and let them know that profits would no longer be going to their restaurant and instead be going to a competitor, be it another fast food franchise or a grocery store.
To secure profits and prevent this mishap, the franchise and corporate was forced to take important steps to satisfy customers by disciplining and if necessary terminating ineffective staff and training and hiring new ones to replace them. Since Mickey D is always hiring, that's not a problem.
It also shows the superiority of capitalism over socialism, especially when we see the results of similar incidents under socialism.
Under socialism private enterprise, freedom and liberty and the all important freedom of choice do not exist. But instead you have coercion, conformity, group think and weakening of individuals as well as death.
The one thing that is still in play as Brian pointed out in his article BIG GOVERNMENT INC is profiteering. The government is interested not in helping the poor but profiting at the expense of the poor and weak and furthers this goal by also profiteering by weakening individuals and making them poor.
The big difference is that as consumers and as free men and women we get to choose our providers. I can choose my doctor, my employer, my employees my course of whatever purpose said provider of good or service will give.
Not so for the government. There is not choice. They decide, you must live with the consequences and pay for whatever consequence of these decisions they make. There is no recourse for the government. You may file complaints, protest but usually this is met with retaliation. Only our votes or a violent revolution can change that. Our votes by the way are usually cancelled out by the ones who benefit and those hostile toward freedom and liberty.
Consider for instance the payee program. Just two weeks ago in my hometown of Boston an 84 year old woman was forced to live on the streets for several days because her payee refused to use her social security check for her needs. The payee service is a private for profit company that is controlled by the government. There is usually little recourse since the same system trying these crimianls is the same system that enables them.
Under payeeship or guardianship, the innocent person is forced to endure the humiliation of being labeled a mental defect unable to manage his or her assets and property, in the case of a rep payee, a check from social security. The third party in charge can use or abuse these assets anyway they want, on themselves, for harm to the first party or any other reason or not at all in the case of the 84 year old.
Payees and Guardians rarely face prosecution especially in blue states like Massachusetts. Its only when the crimes are well known and unspeakable or if the first party dies or suffers injury that the third party is brought to bear.
According to the tyrant, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, liberty in a Democracy is threatened when private power has more power than Democratic institutions. That in its essence says FDR is fascism. Not so...
If the private power is enabled by government such as a labor union or a hate group then yes that would be the case but what about when Democratic institutions of government power are used to abuse civilians and the innocent as is the case we have seen with unarmed minorities being gunned down by racist or incompetent cops and in turn angry black socialist militants on welfare taking revenge on innocent white people? What of the previous mentioned situation????
Fascism in truth is when Institutions of government of any kind are used to bully and weaken innocent individuals for a perceived collective good. America embraces fascism by letting an immoral and apathetic majority have its say in our lives. The government exists not to uplift but to bring about ruination. This was the case under Hitler and discriminatory laws passed against Jews such as the Nuremberg laws and under FDR and his raw deal.
There can be no free society or free country under socialism or any other system that is in opposition to capitalism. Capitalism is not perfect but it is the only system that can guarantee a free society that has liberty. Strong Judeo-Christian morals, great courage and eternal vigilance are the three requirements to ensure freedom and liberty.
Capitalism is the ultimate expression of a free Democratic society. With my money and my skills I can vote on where my money goes, on which good and service I want based on my needs and desires be it quality, brand or neccesity. The money goes where I choose based on who can fufill these needs and desires.
Not so in Socialism. The government picks and chooses the winners and losers for any reason depending on the group in power be it a majority or a group with some ideology and the government decides what it says we need and what is necessary whether or not it is and whether or not we like it. Hence, Poverty, misery, depravation and death always are found in countries such as those in Europe and Africa because of this eschewing of capitalism.
Liberals will always chime that our founding values, our constitutional liberties are a horse and buggy and that these other nations and their way of doing things are the way of the future. The complete opposite of the truth. Our system of governemnt, law and freedom is the more advanced.
The founders may have lived and died two and a half centuries ago, but they were 1000 years ahead of our time in planning this great nation. What we have or used to have is the Galaxy Class Star ship Enterprise D from Next Generation, whereas the system of The Democratic liberals is really nothing but an oxcart. Slow, clumsy, bumpy not efficient.
Free trade = capitalism
Fair trade = socialism
You’d be surprised how much heat the above produces, even among conservatives.
Bookmark perfectly true article.
You have a chance of shaming most businesses into just or ethical action / reform when the repercussions of poor customer service poses a threat to future profits.
Profit is their incentive.
In nearly every case the same cannot be said of government services. They have no incentive to remedy or reform since government workers have long since rejected the notion they are: “public servants”.
Our servants have become our masters.
SOME writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness POSITIVELY by uniting our affections, the latter NEGATIVELY by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first is a patron, the last a punisher.Socialism is war, waged by government (and governmentists who distort the language by claiming to be liberals).Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil - Thomas Paine, Common Sense (1776)
Socialism is war, waged against society.
Against society, and even against the very word society.
Against the word society as a name for something other than government. And that war has not been new since at least 1776.
The government picks the winners and losers ...
Case in point: the National Endowment for the Arts. Does anyone think a free market would employ “artists” whose sole contribution to the community is the defilement of sacred ideas? Of course not. But our betters in government have decided that those artists are worthy of support, so the create a mechanism for funneling money to them. The marketplace doesn’t pick the winners and losers; the government does.
How is that not tyranny?
