Ford Motor Co (F.N) Executive Chairman Bill Ford Jr. said on Wednesday he has met with Donald Trump to talk about the Republican presidential candidate's extensive criticism of the automaker's investments in Mexico.
Ford told the Economic Club of Washington that he thought Trump's criticism of the No. 2 automaker's foreign investments were "infuriating and "frustrating" because of the company's extensive investments and employment in the United States. Trump has threatened if elected to impose hefty tariffs on Ford imports from Mexico.
Ford told reporters after the event that the session with Trump was a "great meeting" that took place a few months ago....

Ford= Found On Road Dead.
Plus getting rid of minimum wages and forcing autoworkers into poverty on $130 a week. How do you think that'll go over?
So I’ve heard this about several different companies. What I’ve never heard is if the companies, such as Ford in this case, actually received any of the funds associated with those factories or if the government got them at cost or appropriated profits or required profits to be kept in-country. Does anyone know?
Prove it...
I’ll buy a car made in the US...Canada...most parts of Europe...Japan....and South Korea.OTOH never, ever,*ever* will I buy one made in China or Mexico.I’ll walk before I do that.
it’s bad azz. Just think for $70k it should have leather.
That, and I hate them seats...Very uncomfortable...
How does the aluminum suck?
I'm on my second Ford Focus lease and I love it..............
So Toyota moving here and employing Americans is good for our markets but, Ford “Offshoring” is bad?
They have to remain competitive.
Nike makes exactly zero shoes in the USA.
Apple phones are made somewhere in China.
Ford owns 78% of the construction industry and the F150 is the best selling vehicle for now it’s 40th year in a row.
Now, it would be amazing if the F150 were the number one selling truck, which it is but, it is the number one selling vehicle.
Seems the market would find alternatives to the F150 “IF” they existed.
Go to any construction sight and count the number of Ford’s.
Ford also owns 71% of the LEO market.
I’m sure you have an experience that didn’t go well for you but, the numbers don’t support your opinion...
I have a 1997 Honda CR-V. It's very well put together, and my only complaint is the piss-poor A/C here in New Mexico. It blows cold, just not hard enough to matter. It has about 120,000, and with my monthly commute at about 300 total miles, it won't see 325,000 for 55 more years... Hopefully, I'll be dead by then.
DesertRhino was talking about tariffs funding the majority of the government, not just balancing the budget.
Read it again. Autoworkers in Mexico get $26 a day.
>>I have a 2015 Fusion. It has 33000 miles. It already rattles more than my managers 15 year old Honda Accord with 325,000 miles.
That’s a car I want to like, in the hatch version.
I happened to talk with a Gulfstream pilot Saturday at a FBO who has one. He was griping that his right rear would chew up a tire in less than 15,000 miles, and that there was no camber adjustment. Meanwhile, the Euro version of the car has adjustment.
I commented that I thought the Focus was a world car, pretty much the same everywhere. Apparently not so, as he said that while the shell was the same, lots of content was cheapened down in the American version.
This is a guy who had been having serious technical talk about maintaining vintage aircraft with my buddy I was there with, and he seemed to generally know his stuff, so I think his observations and criticisms are valid.
It’s not encouraging, to say the least.
They couldn’t repatriate the profits until after the war. I think they also got some reparations ($1.1 million) from the US taxpayers because of bombs that missed their targets and damaged Ford assets. Earlier, they had gotten similar payments from the Nazi government.
From the Washington Post:
“Spellich said that company historians are still researching this issue but have found documents showing that, after the war, American Ford received dividends from its German subsidiary worth approximately $60,000 for the years 1940-43.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/national/daily/nov98/nazicars30.htm
($60,000 in 1943 would be worth about $835,328.32 now - not huge profits, but better than a hole in the ground. Added to the $1.1 million, that would be roughly $2 million in income from their Nazi operations)
Ford also had facilities in France that were used to produce trucks for the Nazis. I’ve never come across any information on how that income might have been treated - I think it was run through the Koeln offices.
You can keep your overhead down when you use slave labor.
I had a German manufactured Ford Focus, 2000 year model, I purchased in Spain. I would routinely drive it over 100 mph, 160 kph, on the freeways there. The faster I went the more it hugged the road.
Loved that car.
Learjet / Bombarier nearly killed the company by building a factory in Mexico to build the new Lear 85. Delay after delay, with manufacturing problems, etc., ended the airplane type and was last chance for Learjet to stay in that market.
err..Bombardier.....
Europeans drive fast, which is why their cars can’t be dumbed down like ours. Heck, the VW Jetta and Passat made in Chattanooga are completely different cars from those made for the Euro market.
I believe it. I am already thinking of trading it in.
I heard a lot of good things about the CR-V.
I drive 300 miles a week. I will be lucky if I pay this car off before, I need to get a new one. I wouldn’t have to worry about that with a honda or toyota.
