I was talking to a friend today, and I said I thought it was interesting how all the liberal sites are talking about how cool it would be to have a taco truck on every corner and getting taco trucks set up to register voters etc... He said oh are you talking about what Trump said about having a taco truck on every corner? I said where did you hear that? He said I heard them talking about it on the news... I said Trump himself saying it? he said yes, so I told him that was not a Trump quote, but instead was the leader of a Latino group in LA that was pro-Trump saying it. I went on to tell him, this was after a rally they had last week called operation taco bowl, where I also heard Trump being called a racist afterwards for organizing that... except he didn't, this same Latino group did and they named it themselves.
Anyway, where I was headed, we moved into this house, located in the Maryvale district of Phoenix, 22 years ago, when we did, my oldest was starting 1st grade. Our first awards ceremony we realized white kids were not a majority here anyway. It was very close to 50/50 split hispanic/white not including other minorities. By the time he graduated, that split had gone to everybody being a Minority to the Hispanics. Only pointing all this out for background... I have had some GREAT Mexican neighbors over the years! They are the ones that came here to work hard and be Americans, Some legally others legalized last time around, but however they got here, they came and assimilated and it did not really matter to me. They did not come here to make America Mexico again! My mother in law used to get a good chuckle when she thought about answering my door to my neighbor coming over asking for yeff (my name is Jeff) 10 years later, that same neighbor is the foreman of a landscaping crew instead of the grunt worker, has a company truck and speaks English as good as I do.
Anyway, 1/2 mile away, there was a great little Mexican restaurant called Popo's. Around that same intersection there was a Pizza Hut, a Whataburger and maybe some others I forget now. A mile North of that intersection, there was a KFC, a little taco shop, a McDonalds a non chain pizza buffet and an olive garden I believe it was... within the first year or so, the olive garden burned and was not rebuilt and a new taco bell came in down the street soon after. The pizza buffet sold to another NY style pizza place a couple years later and it became a favorite of ours for years. Recently they sold and it got changed around to be a Sports Bar/Pizza place but the quality of their food was gone... A couple days ago we wanted a good Anti-Pasta salad and knew we could not go there anymore, so pulled out the new tech smart phone and asked where an Italian Restaurant was close by... Only different ones that came up were about 8 or 10 miles back across town now... So I searched for Pizza shops, besides the chain deliveries there were only a handful of pizza places left. I just want to say, I really like Mexican food, and extra spicy is great too! But, I like many other kinds of food too, not JUST Mexican food...
Same as...
“I can see Russia from my porch”
That particular Trump spokesman has had several days to clarify his message, but has not yet done it. At first listen, it sounds somewhat baffling. Why is he saying this would be a problem?
He should have phrased it better from the beginning. Maybe someone else in the Trump group can help this guy edit and sharpen his message. The media loves to feign ‘confusion’ when a conservative makes any sort of statement.
Yeah it could probably use some clarification...
I guess that is why I decided to post my epiphany for the day.
The Trump Team is probably so grateful to have any hispanic support, that they don’t spend a lot of energy coaching or correcting this guy.
“Just end every interview with an enthusiastic; “Vote Trump!” while pumping your fist and looking straight into the camera, and Mr. Trump will be satisfied.”
i actually fully understand the point, it’s actually a huge issue in South Central LA and I suspect many other places. The Mexican culture has a tendency toward the infiormal economy. In LA they actually ban a lot of this kind of thing, taco trucks, sidealk vendors, etc., because if you let them, they’ll put all of the legit establlishments out of business and you’re left with no tax base, no real sit down restaurants, just a bunch of taco trucks in parking lots.
ping-o
There is ALREADY a taco truck om every corner.
LOL, Damn MSM, this same friend is positive Sara Palin said that too, still to this day, even after I told him that quote came from Tina Fey on a SNL skit... and what Sara actually said was 100% true! He gets his news from the Arizona Republic and over the air tv news
My question would be....are these authentic Mexican taco trucks, or El Salvadorian taco trucks, or Columbia taco trucks, or Guatemalan taco trucks? Frankly, I’m tired of the fake Mexican taco trucks with three Peruvian illegals in the back running the operation. There needs to be some kind of ‘stamp of approval’ on all taco trucks....letting you know that it’s pure “Mexican” and not some fake.
Yes, you are 100% correct, for those following along, Maryvale is one of the worst areas in Phoenix... and yes “serial shooter” still on the loose. Not that it helps much, but we are in probably the best part of Maryvale being at west end and only 1/2 mile out of Glendale... Not too far from the Cardinals Stadium, but if I had to guess I would say we hear what we call “the ghetto bird” at least 4 out of 7 nights and many times its twice in a night, that is hearing it circling right over us, if we are just talking within a few square miles visible, I would say half a dozen times a night you could see them circling somewhere if you were outside watching for them. Strangely enough we rarely ever find out why.
We have never had any trouble here (knock on wood), though I hear gun shots very regularly... and many of my neighbors have... One across the street and down a few houses, on the corner has been broken into half a dozen times since we have lived here.
I credit it to #1 Primarily plus 3 other factors,
1) God has protected me and my family.
2) We have dogs that bark a lot at anything.
3) I don’t hide the fact I own guns.
4) I work from home and somebody is here most all the time, My wife is typically up early about 3 hours after I go to bed late...
Is that a real poncho...I mean
Is that a Mexican poncho or is that a Sears poncho?
when Trump gets elected, we will need all sorts of vehicles to deport folks, so taco trucks would be kind of ironic.
I love hearing about fellow Valley folks describe their experiences here. I too, love Mexican food.
Anyway, the good thing is when we talk of Trumps policies, we aren't talking about the folks who make up our communities, like our neighbors and friends.
And who knows, maybe Trump's reforms will open up Mexico for us again. I would LOVE to be able to go back and visit, but my wife, being Latina, will not go there as it is now. Her experiences as a child with drug cartels and socialist/narco gangsters are such that she won't chance running into them again in Mexico. It has gotten very bad down there from what we see and hear.
About 6-7 yrs ago we went back to S Fl. on a visit. The Delray, Ft. Lauderdale area.
Being born and raised in Miami I was looking forward to some Cuban cuisine.
Very difficult to find. Mexican everywhere but no Cuban.
Shocker.
Lol
