Thursday, July 14, 2016 Bye Bye Shotguns? An interesting missive out of the Chief of Patrol's Office this week:
Commencing the week of 18 July 2016 through 22 July 2016, there will be a District shotgun and ammunition turn-in. The purpose of this weapon turn-in is to collect the shotguns, reconcile the inventory and later repurpose the weapons if necessary. [emphasis added - SCC]
There's an attached matrix for every district and unit to bring the shotguns in - and the Districts may not get them back. One of the more versatile weapons in the Department inventory is being removed from circulation, possibly forever.
Question - Why? And why now? Cops are under siege nationwide. Ambush, sniping, attacked at marches. The firepower arrayed against cops is wide ranging, so why not have shotguns as one of the options available? Sure they aren't the most modern weapon and the maintenance leaves much to be desired, but for the most part they worked.
Is this because we might actually have to use them? And are they checking them for functionality or removing them forever?

Shotguns are/were called “riot guns” in police use.
Your answer is “they” do not want cops to have the option to use them.
“They” know what is about to happen.
So.. a week after 11 cops get shot and 5 die, you take weapons AWAY from cops?
There’s a different strategy.
If they sell them to the public, I might be interested in a couple. I expect DoJ has earmarked them all for Mexican drug gangs, however.
Chicago is already unsafe to visit or invest in.
This will only keep more of us away.
Meanwhile.. they may celebrate...but their once-great city is being led right down into the dungheap.

The first thing to remove is the Mayor.

With the police hamstrung to a greater degree,why would anyone want to visit there? This is insane!
Cops need shotguns in civil disturbances. Many types of nonlethal rounds available. Control a mob without killing anyone.
This is political - force police to go from zero to deadly force in seconds, fomenting real violence. Despicable.
Chicago police should go on strike. Right now.
every ChiTown resident or visitor... you are now on CLEAR NOTICE..... its well past time for you to make sure you are well equipped to defend yourself and your community
and if you already have some, now is a great time to go get yourself some more firepower....
At this point would it make a difference if they went on strike? Either their hands are tied or they are not attempting to do their jobs. The current crime wave bears this out.
