LONDON A petition calling for the UK to hold a second referendum on membership in the European Union surpassed 1.3 million signatures on Saturday, in the wake of Britain's vote to leave the 28-member bloc.
The demand to sign the parliamentary petition briefly caused the government website to crash on Friday. A House of Commons spokeswoman told the Guardian that the site was temporarily taken down due to "exceptionally high volumes of simultaneous users on a single petition, significantly higher than on any previous occasion."
In the referendum, 17,410,742 voted to leave and 16,141,241 voted to stay a difference of 1,269,501 votes. As of Saturday around 1:30 p.m., the petition has 1,353,575 votes....

Because they never stop. Democracy is not for them.
And the news is reporting this crap add if it makes sense.
It’s an internet poll with many people signing from other countries. Total BS.
If we don’t win the first time, try, try again!
The left loves democracy until they lose. THEN it’s the public having a hissy fit.
“Its an internet poll with many people signing from other countries. Total BS.”
These numbers are WAY too large to assemble in a matter of a single day.
Even for an online petition with the full backing of the BBC to direct people to it, require their signature and move along.
I wouldn’t worry about the whole “online / most people signed from other countries”. I’m going with “The whole thing is a damned lie”
Are they going to do like the U.S. Democrats? Sit down and cry? Tango Sierra sore losers. Call Algore for sympathy.
Some people despise the idea of independence. The larger the government that controls their pitiful lives, the better.
I signed the petition five times.
(just kidding)
“Why not three out of five, four out of seven, five out of nine, six out of eleven?????.....Fibonacci numbers come to mind. Nonsense! The elites did not get what they wanted and are now dead set on getting it. They got their votelive with the results.”
A national game of rock, paper, scissors...no peeking now.
liberals love to cheat. For most of them its a way of life.
This will be what liberals here try the day after Trump wins.
Idiots idiots idiots
They’re liberals. They don’t think logically.
We didn’t win.unfair. We want a do over.
Worked for Al Frankenstein.
I’m sure a petition would’ve kicked 0bie out of office. /s
What petulant children these leftists are.
It seems that many of those signing an online petition
for another referendum do NOT live in the UK.
It’s bull.
Only 300,000-something of those signatures have come from British IP addresses; over 75% from foreign IPs.
This petition is being spammed by foreigners and butthurt Remainers. It means jack all anyway, despite the media’s palpable glee reporting about it, as the British government has never paid any attention to that Internet petition site, much like whitehouse.gov petitions.
Well of course the people who DIDN’T vote for BREXIT would sign the petition GIVE ME A BREAK!!! This is just like what the hell the GOP is doing to Trump the DAMNED GLOBALISTS know what is best for us and the Brits it took real courage for the Brits to pass this, they knew there would be difficult times for a while but they put GREAT BRITAIN FIRST!!! Just like WE are going to put AMERICA FIRST!!! These GOBALIST BASTARDS don’t give a DAMN about ANYTHING but themselves and THEIR WEALTH!!! NAFTA was sold to EVERYONE as a wonderful thing this was nothing more than bringing STRONG SUCCESSFUL nations to their knees and bringing unsuccessful nations to an equal level while WE are brought down to where ALL are equal the socialist world utopia BASTARDS all of them!!!! THANK YOU BRITS for your courage and putting your nation FIRST above your own needs !!! Things WILL be much better for you, your children and grand children in the long run, may GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!!!!
Farage told the Mirror: In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way. If the remain campaign win two-thirds to one-third that ends it.
Sufficiently serious issues like this require large majorities - 2/3 or 3/4 - to put to bed. There will be fussing from both sides until polling gives just such popular lead to one side. Any decisive vote required will be held then.
Rules don't apply to them. Their the guy on the road that sees a lane is going to be closed ahead but refuse to get in the correct lane until the end. They then expect someone to let them in.
