For those that hunt or into survival. This may be one of the easiest way to start a fire that I came across. The guy from Stephenson Prepper uses cotton ball, petrolium jelly and a flint with a scraper. See the fire starter video here. So what other easy ways do you all use to start a fire for survival?
Learn to bow drill just in case you are ever caught without your matches, lighter, or flint. You can easily make a bow drill from simple stuff found in the forest.

“Road Flares - Never Fails.”
That’s what Mr. Megan uses! They always work!
Oh the ever stupid drunk James dickey. The rich kid who detested everything that wasn’t up to his standards....like the crap he put out as an advert writer for Coke
Puhleeez. Dickey was a putz and his view of those that lived outside of his oh so special Buckhead neighborhood drips with contempt
My son was on a canoe trip with a group of wilderness instructors when they had to camp in a pouring rain.
No one could start a fire, except my son.
He started a fire using only one match just like old Dad taught him.
I was never so proud!
I haven’t read all the comments so I am likely late but mine is to rub two Boy Scouts together. lol!
Matches
A lighter.
Why make things difficult just because you think you are in a “survival” situation?
Copper rod during a lightening storm, butcha gotta be quick with the follow-up kindling.
A Fresnel lens is a winner as well for sunlight. I think they can be obtained from headlamps and the like.
YEP....dryer lint
“Jeeves, I feel a slight chill. Do start a fire, please.”
2 mins later.
“Well done, Jeeves, we’ll have supper at eight, then.”
Done!
When I go out hunting my fanny pack always has 3 Bic lighters and 6 to 8 birthday candles.
I write the year on the lighters when I buy them and the next year I get 3 more and give the old ones to friends who smoke.
I can start a fire in a light-moderate rain or in a snowstorm with those.
Dryer Lint, and matches, in a ziplock
Even cotton balls don’t burn like dryer lint.
I’ve seen the match dipped in wax technique used also. It works.
I just got some potassium permanganate and glycerin but have not been impressed so far with its fire starting qualities
I just raise
my sun glasses
use the heatray!
Exactly! Just carry lighters, Bics are nice, but with a zippo, you can carry plenty of extra flints (removed from old bics or bought) in the bottom of the zippo. They also work with different fuels.
Without a lighter, (or all the other clever gizmos), just learn to use some form of a bow drill. It’s hard to be some place where the materials for a bow drill are not available.
