On April 11, John Kerry became the first Secretary of State to pay his respects to at Hiroshima’s memorial to those who died when the atomic bomb was dropped on that city on August 6, 1945. That event, and the dropping of a second atomic bomb on the city of Nagasaki on August 9, brought a victorious and rapid end to World War II, and a Japanese surrender 6 days after Nagasaki, saving potentially millions of casualties on both sides if the U.S. had been forced to invade the Japanese home islands.
Kerry’s statement during the visit, as reported by CNBC, completely misrepresented the significance of the event, ignored the fact Japan brought tragedy on itself by attacking us at Pearl Harbor, and falsely blamed the instruments of war for the tragedy of war:

If he apologizes it’s going to be an insult to every last vet that was ever tortured and killed by those animals not to mention all the civilians they needlessly tortured and killed. Pearl harbor, the rape of Nanking where they slaughtered 300,000 people, the Bataan death march on and on, POWs who were tortured and starved, beheaded. The Japanese during WW2 made ISIS look like Teddy bears. 2 nukes later and today the most violent they get is pushing Hello Kitty dolls. Apology my ass. It was the best use of nuclear bombs ever.
I am generally curious, because I don’t know the answer. Has the Japanese PM or Emperor ever traveled to Oahu, Hawaii and publicly apologized for bombing Pearl Harbor that brought the USA into the war in the first place, which ultimately led four years later to the bombs being dropped on Japan? Figure if that hasn’t happened, it should happen first.
I was going to ask the same thing. Not that mention the brutal war crimes the Japanese committed again not the US POW’s.
We should give obummer a break here. He is not from this country so he might not know about things like Pearl Harbor or any of the other atrocities done by the Japanese. Who knows, maybe he thinks Japan is one of our 57 states.

On a separate note, I don’t really care if the Japanese apologize or not. Won’t change my opinion. I love the Japanese culture and people. I take karate from a 65 year old Japanese man who came to the US not knowing a single word of English. One of the finest people I’ve ever met. None of this crap changes anything.
Of course, the required invasion would have killed a million or more mostly White and Latino Americans, Brits, Aussies, New Zealanders, Russians, Chinese, Korean and Allied Soldiers and Sailors,
but no racist Negro Mau Mau Kenyans.
And probably about 5 million Japanese too. Oh well ...

And they dare ask for an apology.

Bataan Death March
Thanks for the article. After reading it I saw that it was really just a wreath laying ceremony to honor the dead, but no formal apology and they avoided Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. In that regard, I don’t have a problem with Kerry laying a wreath at Hiroshima to honor the dead, but if they don’t feel like formally apologizing, why should we? And like another poster said, I love Japanese culture and people. One of my aunts is Japanese, her father is one of the last surviving members of the 100th Infantry Battalion.
