Donald Trump is the most electable conservative
Coach is Right ^ | 2/1/16 | Kevin "Coach" Collins

A lot of people are very afraid of Donald Trump. His success will come at their expense because power in politics is a zero sum commodity. What one side gains is always at the expense of the other.

Every day we are presented with twisted and convenient definitions of conservatism from those who desperately don’t want to be on the losing side.

To them, changing one’s mind and acknowledging the value of conservative positions has become a sign of insincere conservatism. They echo the liberal line about Lincoln not being so great because he, “Came late” to the idea of freeing the slaves, without any Self-consciousness. Smug self-congratulation will do that.

“Moving the goal posts,” is another verbal gymnastic trick Trump’s attackers have borrowed from the Left. Thus Trump’s positions never seem to go far enough to satisfy them.

What a conservative candidate should stand for is very clear and Trump holds all of the important positions a conservative such hold.

Trump wants to: close our borders and tighten control over who comes into America;

Built a strong and feared military;

Keep America safe from those who want to kill us; and is not afraid to name them as Muslims;

Spread the pro-life message;

Institute an effective taxing plan that will provide opportunities for America’s recovery;

Deal with the world from a position of strength and regain respect...

There is nothing better than providing a GOOD JOB to a person. And Trump has signed approximately 500,000 paychecks ON THE FRONT, over his career.

Trump has created more jobs in the PRIVATE SECTOR all by himself, than all candidates currently running in 2016 + all the 44 previous presidents combined.

I gave you a wide choice to refute my dozens of points, stating Trump’s conservatism. Looks like you can’t refute a single point, so you resort to general statements.

Really? That’s all you’ve got? You should be ashamed to support him if that’s his credentials. Or you’ve sold out your own principles....your call.

Puh-lease. Anyone who has a “Trump rulez!!!” post carefully prepared for quick pasting into threads is clearly not going to listen to a single refutation. You’re a Koolaid drinker and not worth my time debating.

If the argument could be stated in these positive terms, that would be really good.

That is not the choice Trump has made.

He has decided along with a large cohort evident here at FR to personally attack Ted Cruz.

Ted Cruz does not personally attack Trump. The most personal attack Cruz makes is about the many personal attacks Trumps makes against other conservative candidates.

I could take issue with many items on your list, but I honestly hope that is what Trump will do.

I am not at all confident he will do the things on the list.

I think Trump has told us quite honestly that he is a deal maker. That means that many people will be winners in his deals.

The people who lose will probably lose some very important things. I think in a political context these could include our constitutional rights. He has an imperial air to his arguments. I don’t like that. The constitution constrains that approach.

The awkward reality is that we must do the long hard work of re-educating the public to cooperate and agree wit these points. There is not a single individual who can do it all for us. That is the unfortunate fantasy that understandably consumes the followers of Trump.

I am also frustrated— but my patience is not exhausted. I will continue to try to convince my fellow citizens. I hope Trump will do the same regardless of outcomes.
