What is “The Dick Van Dyke Studio”? Was it built by/for him? Merely named for him? It certainly wasn’t where the classic show was made.

I’m guessing this was the place that “The New Dick Van Dyke Show” from the early-1970s was filmed. The series with DVD and Hope Lange.

That show was only mildly less forgettable than “The New Andy Griffith Show”. Fortunately, they had “Diagnosis: Murder” and “Matlock” to end their TV careers on a happy note.

CAREFREE, AZ (KPHO/KTVK) -
A huge fire in Carefree Sunday morning ripped through what used to be the old Woburn studio building. Built about 35 years ago, the site was used for outdoor fashion photography.
Earlier, a Rural Metro fire spokesman said he misidentified it as the old Dick Van Dyke studios, which were once located near the Boulders off Scottsdale Road.

Carefree was the inspiration for Gordon Lightfoot’s “Carefree Highway”, when he was roilling through town and liked the name. One of G-Light’s finest.

Note: When I first heard the song as a kid I thought it was “every highway”, not Carefree lol

Carefree Hwy ( Hwy 74) runs between Rt 60/93 to the town of Carefree. Been on it many a time.
You are correct, it is the inspiration of the song

That's funny. There are a lot of songs I mishear the lyrics on and even when I find out the real lyrics, the original misheard lyrics are the ones that still stick in my mind.
For example, the Bob Dylan song "Tangled Up In Blue" - for years I thought it was "Tired Of Loving Blues." There are many other examples.
There's actually a word for this - mondegreen.

That second Van Dyke comedy show has been almost forgotten; I believe it was set in Scottsdale. Then later, he had ‘’Diagnosis Murder’’ with one of his sons.

Yeah, it’s a pretty forgotten series. Never circulated much in reruns, even though it did run for three seasons. Last time I encountered it in syndication was about fifteen years ago on the old Goodlife Network. It just wasn’t too memorable of a show, despite the cast. It’s not available on dvd.

Up until now, I still thought it was "every highway".
Is that the place where "the bathroom's on the right"?

Carefree was the inspiration for Gordon Lightfootâs âCarefree Highwayâ, when he was roilling through town and liked the name. One of G-Lightâs finest. Indeed. Tony Dekker does an outstanding cover. I may actually like it more than the original.
