John Bircher alert.
Title is misleading as it it's given in 1974 but supposedly he's quoting himself from 1958. I'll just assume he's more paraphrasing then quoting and adjusting the so-called predictions as the years go buy.
The Communist stuff is kind of dated and rob this gem of some pertinence.
I'm not a John Bircher, and I don't know why they fell out of favor other than being Alynsk'ed.
Which Presidential Candidate sounds like the tail end of the echos from the past?

Can you provide some of the predictions?
bttt
Bump for later
Here were the predictions:
Gradual surrender of US sovereignty to
int’l organizations
Expand Gov Spending greatly
Higher taxes
Increasingly Unbalanced budget
Devalue the currency
Gov price and wage controls
Socialistic Controls over economy and daily lives
Increase bureaucracy size
Centralize Federal power, weaken power of the states
Federal aid to, and control over, education
Make the public fear fighting and support appeasing communists
He was right on all ten predictions. We didn’t win the Cold War. We just won a battle and Obama was the next phase. He is their weapon. I know it sounds paranoid but he could have been the eleventh prediction come true.
Hardly mind-blowing.
I’ve made that observation (Birchers’ predictions coming true) myself several times in the past 15-20 years; moreso in the last 8-10 years. When I was stationed at Ft. Hood back in the early- to mid-80s, I somehow got on the John Birch Society mailing list. Although I never joined, participated or even communicated with them, I read their materials and, for the most part, thought they were nuts. After seeing and living the events of the past 30 years, I’m not so sure.
I’ve noticed a growing trend hear at FR of people being reticent to connect to links to go and see and hear for themselves. Instead they are demanding someone else filter the information to them. Beware of the alphabet media style filtering of your information you may wind up like the people in the film “Idiocracy”.
Some of their ideas and predictions are a bit off the wall, but the majority are right on the mark.
Could be fear of viruses & other cooties from the moonbat sites (not referring to this one).
At almost any site a cookie gets implanted in your hard drive. Best to be cautious.
The John Birch society suffered two hits: William F. Buckley Jr attacked it as too extreme, and it hasn’t had a leader like its founder (Welch, the man in the video) since his death.
Yes, there’s been demonization from the left, but the left does that to everyone right of Bill Clinton
True, but some people are not able to watch a video, with, you know, sound. At work maybe?
Is the JBS still around?
Yes just like me, I learned of the Birch society leading up to Reagan’s. I think kit was making a slight comeback but died with GHWB election and 1000 points of light and the New World Order.
Interestingly, I came across a Reagan snippet when he addressed the U.N and he mentions Aliens among us, Just stating it like that is out of context, but if you want it should be in the side bar of video’s from the one I posted about.
Absolutely. “Glasnost” was a calculated strategy by the Communists. Long before that, if you analyze the history of the Soviet Union, there were always periods of hard liners antagonizing the West, following by leaders with a softer touch seeking detente, so they could get more food aid, loosening of restrictions on trade, etc. Gorbachev was just the latest guy appointed to play “good cop”.
They knew they couldn’t beat the West head to head, so they decided to lull us into a sense of complacency, until we could be weakened enough to not be a threat. The best way to accomplish that was to let us believe we had “won”, and that Communism was no longer a threat. Once we believed that, we let our guard down and they were free to take over our society. Now, if you point out that Obama is a communist, people say you are paranoid because “we beat the Communists”, despite all the objective evidence to the contrary.
If there is a Communist ruling in the Washington DC, and a Communist ruling in Moscow, who exactly “won” the Cold War?
Delenda est Carthago
It's not Communist, but Russian Imperialism, same as under the Czars. Putin is no Communist.
The Birch Society was right about what was coming. But their problem was essentially that they were libertarians, not conservatives. They had no moral values, and argued that government should be stopped from preventing individuals from doing whatever the hell they liked.
Regrettably, that raises almost as many problems as Big Government. If people don’t control themselves with basic moral principles, then the way is open for Big Government to step in and do it for them. Not good.
It’s the difference between Goldwater and Reagan.
“Putin is no Communist.”
I disagree. Putin was a KGB stooge, and the KGB was composed only of the most committed communists. He’s never done anything to make me believe he has abandoned those leanings.
