Gun Control 2015: Will Cabela's Stop Carrying 8-Round Magazines?

Not Likely If Customers Have Their Say On Trinity Church Proposal By Clark Mindock @clarkmindock On 12/22/15 AT 3:03 PM

Trinity Church in New York City is using its shareholder status to push major U.S. gun retailer Cabela's to stop carrying firearms with more than an eight round capacity, underscoring the efforts of gun control proponents who continue to look for ways to make the nation safer through stricter limits on weapons and gear. With second amendment politics effectively stopping federal gun control legislation in a calendar year replete with mass shootings, economic pressure from shareholders like Trinity could be one of the only viable ways forward.

Wielding economic leverage through partial ownership of a company works, said Brannon Denning, a professor and gun rights expert at the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Alabama. "[But] it can work both ways: On the one hand you know large investors or people who have a large stake in these companies who can try to lean on them." On the other hand, customers may be unhappy if the store they trust to carry products they want suddenly cuts them from shelves, he said.

Trinity has requested that the company stop selling high capacity weapons in a proposal for the next annual shareholders meeting, according to the New York Times.

I remember when Bass Pro was a fishing gear department in Springfield, Missouri Brown Derby liquor stores. They weren’t much bigger than a closet back in the early 70s.
Johnny Morris has worked wonders.

These shareholders appear to be more concerned with political statements than profit statements.

What is the point?
So instead of two 8 round mags you carry 3 six round mags. Or 4 or 5 or whatever you want.
Don’t these morons know math?
This does NOTHING to stop people from killing other people.
It only inconveniences law abiding citizens.

Cable’s hasn’t taken any action against it roots. A radical, left wing church that owns a few thousand shares has proposed the 8 round limit. It will never be approved.

IIRC, Walmart got in trouble with Trinity Church and a lefty judge because it didn’t go through the formality of putting a similar anti 2A proposal up for a shareholder vote, which never would have passed.

I remember when Walmart quit selling handguns to appease the anti-gunners.

Were the anti-gunners satisfied? NO!

They went after rifles, so Walmart quit selling semi auto military style rifles for several years, then they started again about three years ago, now they no longer sell these rifles.
Are the Anti-gunners happy? NO! Now they want to ban ammo.

I would never buy a firearm from Walmart. I 'gotta guy' who I buy from locally.

As long as Walmart sells ammo, I'm happy. But that is getting to be a crap shoot.

The wishes of a church in the Financial District of famously-liberal New York City are likely far different from those of the customers who frequent Cabelas, noted Johnson, of Fordham University. Why would they change now?

If a church in New York city is involved in political discussions that would affect citizens in Nebraska, shouldn't that church lose its tax-exempt status as a religious organization?

Shouldn't that church be required to register as a political lobbying organization, as required by law?

During a time of war or national emergency, don't the actions of that church and its members and financial supporters fit the description of *giving aid and comfort to the enemies of the United States, and adhering to those enemies?

You can use the On-line fill-out form provided *here.* and report them to the IRS. Instructions *here.

Four rounds per gun is enough for the sporting purposes of MY wingshooting!

I will take the shares of the church off their hands for a buck a share. Then we will all be happy.

I was in Walmart after they quit selling ARs. They had a ranch model mini14 in the display case. I couldn’t help but laugh. Good thing they got rid of those scary semi-auto .223 rifles.

And while Cabelas might have a marginally nicer store than Bass Pro Shops, I’ve never scene a deal at Cabelas.

Dear key,

re:
“push major U.S. gun retailer Cabela’s to stop carrying firearms with more than an eight round capacity”

I submit that:
Colt 1911 is originally a 7 round magazine fed pistol;
S and W 686 .357 magnum revolver has a 7 round cylinder.
S and W Model 42’s, 442’s, 642’s, 38’s, 638’s, 10’s, 12’s, and 15’s which have proved sufficient for many years, are still manufactured with 6 round cylinders.

These all are quite sufficient in what they are designed to do.

Professor Denning is a very good friend of gun rights:
