The host of the Jacki Daily show has had an impressive career in energy, law, and politics.

Now playing also on station KWEL in Midland-Odessa!

Most recently, Jacki served as General Counsel to an engineering firm specializing in energy, national security and environmental cleanup. Previously, she served many years as legal counsel on Capitol Hill to the Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Constitution and the former Ranking Member of the Commercial and Administrative Law Subcommittee, advising on the oversight of federal agencies. Prior to her career in Washington, she worked as a corporate litigator, and as an Assistant Vice President for a national bank.

She entered public life at a young age, as a finalist in the Miss Teen of America pageant. She also served as the Public Relations Director for a statewide political organization.

Jacki studied Economics, Spanish, and World History at Marshall University (Society of Yeager Scholars), Oxford University in the United Kingdom, and the University of Zaragoza in Spain. She is an alumna of the Vanderbilt University Law School, where she served as the President of the law school’s Federalist Society chapter.

Jacki has an extensive network in her six overstuffed rolodexes from which the show draws its guests—including industry leaders representing all parts of the energy sector (oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear, solar, and wind), and government officials, journalists, and political insiders. Often, Jacki will know the day’s most-wanted guest and be able to secure the guest with a personal call.

Jacki is from the Ohio River Valley, where the shale runs deep. She descends from a long line of energy workers, including roughnecks, railroaders, coal miners, and nuclear energy specialists.

National grid securing = feral government centralized control of electricity distribution.

or...individual companies refusing to do anything because of the nimby effect, thereby leaving us vulnerable to solar or emp threats because of their stubbornness...

They’re going to cover the grid with BS to protect it. In reality there’s nothing anyone can do given the magnitude of the cost. It isn’t practical.

Faraday boxes for personal communications such as ham radios,FRS, CB, and other needed electronic components such as solar panel charge controllers are a must. Protecting spare computer components for autos and other vehicles is not living in the real fuel free life. Laptops, PC’s, Apples, and cellphones will be useful as boat anchors.

However, RV refrigerators run on propane and all that is required to freeze and cool is a very, very small flame to run one of those. Its a flame about 1/8 the size of a Bic lighter. A creature comfort that can last a long time. Plenty of barbeque grill propane tanks will be around to scrounge up.

I think it would cost around $5 Billion. Yes, it IS practical. It would be a disaster NOT to harden the grid.

“I think it would cost around $5 Billion”

Like anything “it depends” $5B will get you something, but not everything.

“Whatever.”

No, not “whatever”. You said something that is incorrect.

How are you going to protect the main transformers that are directly tied to the generator at a power plant? That of course figures a transformer for each phase.

I still think too many people are ignoring induced current on circuit boards of everyday items

even if the grid gets back up...someday...too many people will have died and we cant just replace chips on random boards across the country, the survivors will die before a new chip factory starts up, or a board house

“How are you going to protect the main transformers that are directly tied to the generator at a power plant? That of course figures a transformer for each phase.”

Protection can take many forms. You’re right about Generator Step Up transformers being very vulnerable. Spares will be part of the solution (most plants have at least one already).

I said nothing definite. So what is needed to fix the problem with the grid and how much would it cost?

I said “It depends”. And it does, because of the complexity of the grid, and the various priorities of the loads, and the threat from which you are protecting, and your definition of “the problem”.

You could spend $5B or $50B or more.
