I received this list of the perks that Congress votes for themselves in an email forward....Are these things really true?
Proposed 28th Amendment
It will take you less than a minute to read this. If you agree, please pass it on. It's an idea whose time has come to deal with this self serving situation:
Children of Congress members do not have to pay back their college student loans.
Staffers of Congress family members are also exempt from having to payback student loans.
Members of Congress can retire at full pay after only one term.
Members of Congress have exempted themselves from many of the laws they have passed, under which ordinary citizens must live.
For example, they are exempt from any fear of prosecution for sexual harassment.
And as the latest example, they have exempted themselves from Healthcare Reform, in all of its aspects.
We must not tolerate an elite class of such people, elected as public servants and then putting themselves above the law.
I truly don't care if they are Democrat, Republican, Independent, or whatever. The self-serving must stop.
Governors of 35 states have filed suit against the Federal Government for imposing unlawful burdens upon their states. It only takes 38 (of the 50) States to convene a Constitutional Convention.
IF??? Each person that receives this will forward it on to 20 people, in three days most people in The United States of America will have the message.
Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States
Constitution: "Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the Citizens of the United States ..."
A joke? The first three are obviously false:
“”Children of Congress members do not have to pay back their college student loans.
Staffers of Congress family members are also exempt from having to payback student loans.
Members of Congress can retire at full pay after only one term.””
RUBIO comes to mind?
Thank I know a young man in College who I am going to give this to.
You sure about that?
Not sure about some of them, but others are indeed the case.
Congress has long exempted themselves from laws we are to abide by.
Yes, this is a very real problem - which can’t be fixed precisely because the fix would have to be supported by those benefiting greatly from not fixing it.
I understand that to be true. Congress is a prime example of the ruling elite. It is a privileged class, and makes the laws that give itself privileges. As such, it is completely and totally corrupt.
It’s an email. It has to be true.
I'm sure about it.
The assholes give themselves a hell of a lot, but the one's in this email are false.
Things are bad enough with the current bunch of low-life buttheads in Washington without propagating this kind of hyperbolic silliness.
Google it up...you'll see for yourself.
If half of the stuff that some of these idiots on Facebook and the other DUmb ass forums come up with was true, the manufacture and sale of pitchforks, tar and feathers would quadruple in days.
congressional pensions vest after 5 years of service.
So for the little firecracker who hates serving, that means after attending some meetings but missing more votes than voting, he's set to receive his full Senatorial pay whether he makes it to the White House or not!
No wonder every ambulance chasing lawyer figured out they need to run for congress.
An equally disgusting fact that I found out a little more than a year ago, is that in KS a certain state congressman was put on some state boards and after inquiring to hire the man's business, I was told by one of his family members that he no longer ran the business. Knowing that the salary of state elected "leaders" didn't pay that much, his pay for his board "service" gave him more than enough to support his family!
5 years is less than one term for a Senator.
Anything that is not true will most likely be true soon, especially if Hillary or any other Democrat or Rino wins.
house. senate is a 6 year term. house is 2 year term.
The term I was responding to is “congressional.” That includes the Senate.
I have heard that members of Congress are not legally bound to the SEC “Insider Trading” laws, that is, if they have pending legislation about regulating some industry (or not), they can still purchase or sell stock in companies affected by legislation, which gives them an edge over others similar to insider trading deals.
For example, say you’re a Representative in the House and are going to propose and pass a law further restricting how much CO2 an electric power plant can emit. Before proposing, you sell off all you energy company stocks while they are high, pass the law, and see the same stocks plummet. You’ve made a huge profit.
OR
You could purchase some ridiculously cheap stock from a few startup companies, and then pass laws massively subsidizing these companies’ industry, thereby increasing your stock value in the by 1000%. And yes, both of these things have happened.
That is why so many Congress men and women begin with just the $150,000 annual salary, but after a decade or two, are millionaires. Like... Harry Reid.
True or not I do not know. Anyone?
I understand. Why 5 years ? I don’t know.
A senator gets a pension for 1 term.
A 1 term senator or 3 term congressman is eligible for an annual pension of $17,588
A simple examination of a CongressCritter’s net worth before his first election and 10 years afterwards will give you all the information you need to know.
Interesting you only point out Republicans when the majority of congress critters known to have done this are Demonrats.
What are you talking about????
I pointed out ONE person, Harry Reid, DEMOCRAT Senator from Nevada...
Are you drunk?
