Walmart's stock took a steep drop as the company announced that it was expecting lower profits. There are a number of problems Wal-mart has, such as its website and fulfillment not being quite as good as Amazon.com, but Wal-mart is primarily a brick and mortar store, not an internet company.
The basic problem as I see it is that middle class people are afraid to shop there. If you look at reviews on Yelp one of the most common words used to describe Wal-mart is "ghetto". There is even a Yahoo question on this very topic:
Why is every Walmart so ghetto? Why? I have never walked into any Walmart without feeling like I was going to be mugged, even in a nice area. I know the prices are very convenient, but still. I don't see why every Walmart attracts gangs, druggies, and sometimes even hookers. I've actually seen all those things at a Walmart before, including a man wearing a thong....

I'm pretty certain at the Walmart I shop at, people will shoot back. Lots of good ole' boys.
Walmart is packed with baby mammas, gang bangers in the parking lot, whereas Sam's is full of Hispanic mommas and pappas, with all of their little Anchor Babies in tow as they will pay the $45.00 from my tax dollars!!!
Sadly, I've long since given up shopping at either, for the Walmart parking lot is always having cops holding some perp spread eagle and the Sam's is promoting stuff in Spanish!!!
Ain't the kinda shopping experience I'm looking for!

Every WalMart isn’t ghetto. Outside the urban areas, the proper term is “redneck,” with lots of fat, toothless meth-heads in pajama pants and cammo.
When Walmart opened their first stores (way back when) they used to advertise that they were selling everything made in the USA as a ploy to take customers away from K-Mart. They had banners hung in all of their stores and were proud to proclaim “Made in America”. They succeeded. Now? The banners are long gone and I haven’t found anything in years there that was made in America. They can keep their cheap chink crap and I’ll continue to search online for quality even at a higher cost.
I read about these horror stories but “my” WM is great. Employees are my friends, clientele are mixed middle class, and always friendly. College town so we have to put up with that. Clean store. Always crowded except at night. It’s the place to shop because there is no other place to shop. I will say that the town won’t let them enlarge: out-of-town yankee liberals run the town and they don’t shop there.
You obviously don’t go to the type of McDonalds where the customers riot if the employees forget to remove the pickles!
Why should I pay a high price for dish washer soap when I can buy it for a $1 at the Dollar Tree, works as good as Finish or Cascade. Ditto goes for other cleaning products. His Dial bar soap is 2 for $1.
I have 2 choices for groceries Kroger’s which provides gas points, and Navy Commissary, both have about the same prices. Few exceptions. I choose Kroger’s for groceries because of the gas points, this week gift cards are 4 times the points. Which means gas will cost 95 cents a gal for up to 35 gals. Plus I clip coupons and do digital downloads from Kroger’s.
It is very claustrophobic in there. You don’t have the feeling you are in a warehouse of wonderful delights you might wish to purchase. You just want out. I’ve only been in there one or two times but the last time, I was there with small kids walking with me. A morbidly obese woman in a motorized scooter nearly mowed us all down, yelling, “Get out of my way! I’m running out of power!” And I thought, “Walmart.” It’s just unpleasant to be in there.
I’d go more often (their prices for generic Benadryl and Excedrine, which a I use a lot, are way better than at CVS) but the closest two are each about 10 miles away. Both are modern and clean. Going today, in fact (have to get new license plates and Secy of State is right near one).
I’ll let you know whether the folks at Walmart or the license plate bureau or “dateable” or “undateable.”
Aldi blows the doors off Wal-Mart for food items.
I’d say about 20-40% cheaper. There’s no comparison!

Yeah, but I’ve also noticed that when Wal-Mart has the same quality, it is the same price or even more. I also have Sam’s and Costco memberships. I haven’t much use for Wal-Mart.
My closest Wal-Mart is a Super Wal-Mart, and is actually pretty nice. Clean, huge selection, nice wide aisles. My biggest gripes with it are both because of understaffing. 1) Most of the people out on the floor are doing stocking and don’t speak English, so you’re on your own finding things, (they’re polite about it, at least). The only departments that always have someone knowledgeable present are sporting and electronics. And 2), there’s about 30 registers at the front, but the most they ever have open is 3.
Other than that, it’s a pretty good experience, as far as Wal-Mart goes. I’ve been to several in a pinch that have probably been featured on peopleofwalmart.com.
I live in a rural county and thank God for Wal-Mart. I do probably 70% of my shopping there.

I do not want to be around the typical Wal-Mart shopper.
