so hes ethnically Korean SO WHAT?
thats a maybe tad racist isnt it?
Ah, an act of microagression by Mr Trump. I’m sure this will resonate deeply in middle America and his poll numbers will plunge /s
I saw that and I don’t care.
What is it with identity politics among skull-full-of-mush American school children?
almost a billion bucks? wow. We have jets that cost more.
this ORIENTAL can go to hell.
Go Trump.
I’m sure that costs Trump lots of votes.
the ORIENTALS are going to vote dem anyway so @#$ em.
Why are the two true commie countries left an Asian country and a Hispanic Country?
People often assume Asians are conservative voters. But the majority of Asians support gun control, the police state and other big government projects.
On somewhat conservative issues, Asians only agree on black-on-asian crime.
Trump should interrupt any know-it-all teenager/youth who talks trash to Trump.
Boo hoo.
Trump’s follow up question should have been: Are your parents from Korea? If Choe answered yes, he is still considered a Korean citizen by Korea.
In other words, legally he is Korean (dual national with U.S.).
Donald responded to him that the $860 million is peanuts to what the USA spends to protect S. Korea and what it allows in its trade deficit.
I think Donald has competent people who fact check everything he puts out. I’ll stay with Donald.
IF I identified myself as a Czech and then asked a question about eastern europe, would anyone be out of their mind to ask me if i were from the Czech republic??
Nope.
Okay they already tried the trump-is-racist-against-blacks and trump-is-racist-against-hispanics. It was only a matter of time until we got trump-is-racist-against-asians.
So let me see if I understand the “controversy”... an asiatic student asks Donald Trump a question about South Korea and Donald Trump is “in trouble” for inquiring if the student is from there. Did I miss something? That’s ridiculous.
Hey! What was the point? DOES S. Korea get a free ride or don’t they? Do they pay the U.S. nearly a $billion per year, or don’t they? And to clarify, exactly WHAT is the payment designated FOR? Are they paying it merely for our PRESENCE there, which I gather, is what Choe was claiming? Or is Trump correct, and the $800+ odd million$ are actually in payment for weapons, equipment and/or other defense materiel....which are a different matter altogether, and would blow Choe’s claim into a cocked hat.
Trump was right on the money. Look at the kid’s Twitter page. It’s in hangul as well as English. He talks about his summer job working for the National Assembly (Korea’s version of Congress). I would bet his parents are Korean, which makes him a Korean citizen under Korean law even if he was born in the U.S.
“No matter where I’m from, I like to get my facts straight, and I wanted to tell you that that’s not true. South Korea paid $861 million,” Choe said
...
A drop in the bucket.
After watching video, I wouldnt necessarily call the audiences response to the students reply to Trumps question where the student is from to be significant.
This reminds me of a previous thread where the authors description of the audiences response to a comment that Trump made about Rubio was likewise questionable.
Conservatives boo Trump after Rubio 'clown' insult
The question of origin was well within reason. The reaction is not.
I thought that question was inappropriate, as it had no relevance to the issue at hand.
Even assuming this person was biased, the question and subsequent answer would all be based on facts which, by definition, are devoid of any bias.
To be fair to Mr. Trump, we don’t know what transpired before that to cause him to go that route. Nor do we know what his internals said about what GOPe/RNC plants may be in the crowd that he had to watch out for.
So without knowing the full story it is unwise to render judgement.
Yeah? And how much did WE pay?
The point is that a candidate is foolish to agree to a platform like that, where any questioner can hide behind the “no labels” mask and really be a hit man for a particular party, opposing candidate, or ideology.
Hey, Choe...who gives a rat’s ass what SK pays? The American tax payer foots a huge bill for our military to protect countries like yours and many countries in Europe...so that they can spend that money on socialist programs.
I say it’s time to pack up our military from all of those countries and let them sink economically or be taken over since they haven’t the revenue to rebuild their militaries.
