Windows 10 Issue with Windows Updater

Posted on 10/11/2015 11:40:40 AM PDT by hsmomx3

I am NOT as tech savvy as many of you so here goes.

My WIN 10 operating system has not updated in over four days.

I get this when checking my system for errors:

Rebuild Windows Update Database & restart update services

Data Store and WU Logfiles.zip

File Name: Data Store and WU Log files.zip

Access to path C:\\Windows\software distribution is denied

I haven't done anything recently such as download new programs, etc.

Thanks for your help and it is much appreciated.

Not sure about the access denied error but try going to the notifications icon in the lower right corner, it looks like a rectangle with lines, and left click. Got to settings, left click then go to updates and security and left click. Click the check for updates box. It should update to the latest.

I don’t see an option at all to get updates.

If you had system restore running, try running a restore point from a week or more ago.

I’ve never done this before. Will it mess up items such as browsers that have been updated or other items such as flash player that have been updated since the new restore date?

It will harm nothing, and it is reversible. You can go back to the latest restore point if you wish.

The only real trick is do you have any restore points to revert to?

If you did not turn on System Restore, you won't have any.

Did you find “Updates and Security” from All Settings in Notifications? It should read at the topnnnof that window something like “Your device is up to date” And the should be a box uncerneath that reads Check for updates.

Click check for updates if your device is ot up to date or even if it is for that matter. It will then look for the latest updae and install it.

That link should show you what to do. It’s not hard. It has resolved a lot of issues for me in the past without having to figure out exactly what was wrong.

Mine just tells me what updates have been installed but does not give me an option to check for updates. I have it set to check for updates automatically. Last one was on Oct. 7th for Windows Defender, and on Oct. 6th for a MSFT update.

Well, I have not seen and recent updates, but if you go to the trouble shooter from the control panel, there should be a trouble shooter for "update"....run it and do it from the advanced setting with should rebuild the data base and restart the update service.

I have had to do that on one machine that did not take well to win 10 initially. In fact I had to revert to win 7, then reload it, after I ran all the maintenance programs etc..

You can access it, but the only option you have is to receive non-windows updates as well, or not.

To access update.....(on win 10)

Go to the start button and click it...

On the left you should see a list of topics and features...toward the bottom, just above the “Power “ setting link you should see one labeled “settings” with a little gear picture.

Click it!

then go to update and security.

You will find your windows update setting etc, there.
