The Bakersfield Californian www.bakersfield.com in Kevin McCarthys home District observed in a complimentary article certain key issues to bring renewed luster for the Golden State. Directly quoted, these are:
Water: Improved prospects for legislation that sends more water to farmers and studies new storage sites. Environment: Diminished environmental regulations, increased oil and gas drilling and streamlined timber harvesting. Business: Silicon Valley and Californias commercial space industry have both received his attention in the past.
These are certainly issues of state and national importance. Each is highly focused on their effects on the oil and agriculture economy of the San Joaquin Valley and the aerospace technology centers of Eastern Kern County (Edwards AFB, China Lake Naval Weapons Center and the Mojave Spaceport).
Our interests would be better served if we had two Senators who represent the interests of the State as the Founders originally intended. The House of Representatives is based on population. To counterbalance this diversity is to have two Senators represent the interests of each state.
Under the 1912 17th Amendment, Senators no longer represent the direct interests of their states, but of an exclusive club. Ted Cruz refers to them as the Washington Cartel. Rolling Stones Far Away Eyes Lyrics
I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield
Listening to gospel music on the colored radio station
And the preacher said, “You know you always have the Lord by your side”
And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran
Twenty red lights in his honor
Thank you Jesus, thank you Lord
I had an arrangement to meet a girl, and I was kind of late
And I thought by the time I got there she’d be off
She’d be off with the nearest truck driver she could find
Much to my surprise, there she was sittin’ in the corner
A little bleary, worse for wear and tear
Was a girl with far away eyes
