I’d like to hear the argument that the father(s) of her children are not taking advantage of others. The only legitimate reason she might have to be angry is the lack of quality jobs... if she graduated college with a useful degree and could not find a decent job due to the policies coming from the beltway and JeffCity, then yeah, she should be angry. I’m assuming her anger is not directed at the same people I’d be angry at though. It is a fallacy that the haves are taking advantage of the have-nots by not supporting living wages... the market should determine the value of services. I hit the drive through at McD on the way to work most days for a $1 iced tea while my coffee cools (yes, I like caffeine). There is a reason I choose McD vs Jack-in-the-Box for my iced tea fix... it is less than half the price and better tea. If a living wage meant $2 tea, I’d brew it myself, as the cost then outweighs the convenience for me. That is precisely why I brew my own coffee each morning, as I am not happy with any of the reasonably priced options.
The hard truth is that entry level jobs were not meant to support families, they were meant as stepping stones and proving grounds. Used to be these jobs were for teenagers, not single parents of 4. Used to be that men with no decent job prospects had no marriage prospects either. What changed?
Sure sounds like she voted for Obama so all I can say is How’s that hope and change shit working out for ya?Should have finished a worthwhile degree that had a better chance of higher income than the food service industry.
Well, sorry, I can feel for her plight but have little sympathy.(Sympathy is in the dictionary between s—t and syphilis)
I am 76 and the only Government ‘assistance’ I have ever received was Navy Pay and now I do take my little bit of SS because it not only helps but I did start paying into it in 1954.
I didn’t make the rules, I paid when they said and I absolutely feel no remorse or shame receiving it now.
I am also a HS ‘dropout’ but have NEVER been without a job for any longer than I desired to be. But when I was a drinker I found it was easier to drink if one had a job.
Also was married for 40 some years, raised two kids and yes, the wife worked but I carried the brunt of the load.
I have never had to do it, but would wash dishes or clean heads in a McDonalds before I would accept public assistance.
The lady clearly has little understanding of economics, human nature, or her work's own actual value. I think I can see why, despite some decent writing skills, she is still struggling.
Maybe if she wasn’t so angry, she could hold on to a job and move up.
Wait. She’s got a fiancee but she’d rather ask us to pay her bills than ask him? She seems to pick some real winners.
I eat out a lot and talk to quite a few waitresses in these college towns and I tell them there is no shame in waitressing but it is not a career. It’s a means to an end. Decide what higher goal you have and work so you won’t have to waitress any more, whether it is completing your degree, going into management or launching a different career.
The saddest thing is seeing these gals in their 30s and 40s with no real future because they can’t get beyond the first rung on the ladder whether by lack of initiative or lack of opportunity.
Hey lady, howzabout a garden?
No shame in that!
I have no doubt that her kids are getting free meals at school too.
This "lady" doth protest too much.
Christine, I seriously doubt that you are a net positive in the tax base. You are, no doubt, taking far more than you are putting in.
“why don’t you start valuing my time as highly as you value yours?”
I think she’s got this one backwards.
The money for her benefits comes from somewhere, and ultimately from someone who spends time working to pay taxes that fund her benefits.
I think she values others time less than she believes they value hers.
If she understood that, she’d show a little shame, or at least a little humility.
Cry me a frickin river. The only welfare we ever took was when we(my wife and I) would go out to the streets of Portland and trade a $5 bill for a cheese block and a quart of honey from the vagrants who lined up for all the free cheese and honey. You can feed a family of 4 if you know how to think!!
As my Dear Mother told me when I was a Child, there will always be someone better off than you and there will always be someone worse off than you, that’s Life.
My Father was a bit more blunt. He liked to say “Nobody Owes You a Living”. That’s how I always lived my Life. If it took working three Jobs at once to make the Money, I did what I had to do. Never wrote a Letter complaining about it to the local Rag, I mean Newspaper though.
Too bad so many people think that the Safety Net is a Hammock.
Another one of my Mother’s sayings, “You help People who CAN’T help themselves, not people who WON’T help themselves”. It’s a simple as that.
No, we think you suffer from a poor education at the hands of the libs you idolize.
Excuse me while I dry my eyes...
OK, there. This moron is an embarrassment to the human race, bad choices, more bad choices, buffoonery, denial, skankery, etc. whatever anyone could do wrong, she is on it like wet on water.
The fact that she does not feel shame for the way she has wasted her life is indicative of her utter lack of a moral compass. Since she does not feel shame for the way she has frittered away her precious life, its small wonder that she does not feel shame in living off the chickens in her neighbors yard.
Or, until I'm replaced by an order-entry system or a robot, which be online about six months after my living wage mandate gets legislated, but I'm too stupid to know that.
That’s why I collect assistance without shame. And I’ll continue to do so whenever I need to, until an actual living wage is legislated and applied across the board.
go to a trade college. 1 to 2 years of school. Pharm tech’s get hired over $40,000. There’s your living wage.
I’ve read a few things from that VOX source and they are mega leftist kooks. This article is typical of that bunch.
tl;dr
Does she mention what her college degree was?
I’m guessing it was a useless liberal arts
degree that qualified her to do nothing.
People like her are the reason liberals support abortions.
Where is the father of the children? And how many fathers are there?
That tells the real story.
As a father, my children will not be in that situation, no matter how many extra hours I need to work.
The stupidest thing about this article is that she can’t make money in the fast food industry after several years. That’s nonsense. Anyone that works hard at a fast food joint and stays at the job location/company makes way more than min. wage.
A store manager at KFC in Florida makes over 60,000. The regional manager (4 stores) makes over a 100,000. Typically you can exceed 40,000 in less than 5 years with no college and hard work in the fast food industry. No food stamps needed.
