At least three dogs are dead and 12 more are missing after someone broke into the Riverside County Animal Shelter in Jurupa Valley and opened up their kennels, officials said.
Animal Services spokesman John Welsh said a man in dark clothing can be seen on surveillance footage breaking locks early Sunday, Sept. 13, to release 22 dogs from their kennels at 6851 Van Buren Road.

What is a bait dog?
I see a German Shepherd has died as a result of this, and that is really very sad ;/
A bait dog is a dog that is used by dog-fighting folks to train a more vicious dog how to attack and kill an opponent. Basically, they are disposable victims.
Dog-baiting is the setting of game dogs against a chained or confined animal for sport. The dogs bite and tear to subdue the opposing animal by incapacitating or killing it. Baiting is a blood sport used for entertainment and gambling. It is illegal in most countries with varying levels of enforcement.
It happens more often than you think.
“Investigators have not publicly released surveillance images.”
Well.
I wonder why *not*?
Kinda hard to find the perp and the dogs if no one knows who they’re looking for.
Prayers that they’re found quickly.
If they were taken as bait dogs, well, other prayers.
:’(
They are commonly stolen out of cars and their own yards.
I *never* let my dogs outside alone or unattended in a car.
Ever.
Not even for 1 minute.
Sickening. I’ve always thought that the best way to tell if a man is trustworthy, observe how he treats dogs and other animals.
A bait dog is one that is used to prepare another for purpose of dog fighting (ala Michael Vick). It is akin to a sparring partner in boxing except the bait dog usually dies.
Here’s one that survived and is care of our rescue but can never be adopted out: http://www.gsroc.org/2013/detail.gsr?id=2987
My Mother resides in northern Indiana and for awhile dead badly chewed up dogs were being found in the St. Joseph River. Many of them were missing family dogs.
AHHH!My God...
Thank you all very much for the responses. I was not aware of this being done.
People do some really messed up stuff with dogs, and it makes me sick.
But then there are the people who do wonderful things with dogs, and I am really thankful for such people.
The scumbags hit our area in the 90s.
Due to doing Dobe rescue, I was tight with the local shelter and the manager told me what was going on and I had to stop toting my beloved Minny the Ibizan with me everywhere I went.
She was broken hearted when I’d leave and not take her but the thought of her sweet, gentle self being torn apart by fighting dogs was an unforgivable thing.
So, I left her home.
Eventually, I started staying home more too because I couldn’t bear to see her sad face.
All these years later, I *still* don’t leave my dogs in the car, alone.
Either I go in and get what I need while hubby watches them or vice versa.
Yes, even the Dobes, who would cheerfully rip off any arms that came through the car windows.
I will not take *any* chances with my dogs.
When I’ve had dogs who needed surgery, no matter how long I had to wait, I stayed near the vet hospital until they were able to come out and go home.
Things can happen, even in the best of controlled situations.
But no matter what might happen, they’ll have to kill me to get to my dogs.
Having ranted all that, this is the time of year that black dogs, particularly those of German heritage, black cats and other pets ‘go missing’.
They are taken for pagan/satanic sacrifices.
One of the ladies at the shelter had to go to a certain place after Halloween [and other heathen ‘holy days’] to collect the bodies.
PLEASE do not let your pets unattended in your yards or cars.
What happens to them, if taken, is agonizingly horrible.
Last month I got to talking to a B.A.C.A. biker and he said the hardest part of being in the club was constantly restraining themselves from *not* just taking a hammer to the molesters who had hurt “their kids”.
This made me think of that.
Egad! After reading your post, I am thinking that I better not bring beloved Isis with me to Winn Dixie anymore.
That is the one place that I bring her where I leave her in the car for 10-15 minutes while I go inside, only if it’s cool enough outside where she is not at risk of overheating in the car.
If I came out and she was gone, I would not be able to live with myself, Good God, what a terrifying thought that is.
Terminate with extreme prejudice!
The shelter in this article is the one where my boy Mojo was rescued from.
You are damn right.
Yeah but folks steal dogs like ours cause they are prized for being big pure bred guard dogs
Not throwaways like folks suggest here
I’m like you
I keep my dog locked in car when rides with me which is most days
With ac on of course...
I even have a sign to explain car running which I put on dash
135 pound male Rottweiler inside
Very aggressive
Air conditioner is on and full tank
Break glass and you’ll get bit I promise
Ketch the guy and break his leg an inch at a time
GSDs are a particular “favorite” of these demon skinwalkers.
Not sure if they still do it, but the local shelter used to impose a halt on the adoption of any “likely breeds” a month before Halloween.
Some of the other shelters get very twitchy at other times of year, such as April 30/May 1, too.
The world is full of evil people and shelters don’t really keep tabs on all those newly adopted Fidos and Fluffies so “they” go “adopt” them, knowing no one will bother to track the animal’s life after.
Many years ago, we had a guy bring a bike up from NOLA to get it triked out.
When he got here, he was distracted, and eventually said he was worried about his dog, a solid black Lab/GSD mix who had “disappeared” from his fenced yard, shortly before he came up here.
It was the third week of October.
I said nothing.
Didn’t have the heart to and was praying that my suspicions were wrong.
:(
There’s some weird fasciantion for “dogs with eyebrows” so ALL black and tan breeds are preferred victims.
God.
I hate even typing this.
Makes me sick to my stomach and brings back a lot of bad memories.
Anyway, that’s the big reason I went to breed club rescue rather than hitting the local shelters.
I lost the ability to keep seeing the ‘seasonal horrors’ without going mad.
:-\
Sure wish I was not.
:(
