Win 7 tried to stop piracy, by disabling a feature of Win XP: You can run recording software that picks up on what is coming in over the speakers.
Wouldn't it be great if they had got rid of this on Win 10?
There are still some Win XP computers on CraigsList, they're dirt cheap, yes, they're enormous, but I just keep it under the dresser, some time when I need to be able to record something I'm picking up on a podcast or youtube, it works great, it's nearly free.
AFAIK there are all kinds of software one can use to record through line in feed, no matter that the OS.
There’s a good chance you don’t have to run out and get an old XP computer to do this, as it could quite likely be done with Win7 or 8, and maybe 10.
There’s software out there called virtual machine. It allows you to install any old operating system on your current computer. I’m using Windows 2000 right now on my Windows 7 64 bit computer where I can run any old program I want dating back to the mid 90’s, including some 16 bit programs.
All you need is the virtual machine software (it’s free) and a valid copy of Windows XP.
It’s a windows program—Sound Recorder. Look under help. Fun toy!
There is a software application called Audacity—it is free. I use it to record my LPs but it is just as useful for recoding Pandora or Jazz 24/7.

This person is sadly mistaken. There are other reasons to miss certain aspects of XP, but I record streams all the time in Win 7. I would not want to be connected to the Internet with an XP machine that can’t be updated. My preferred recording tool is Audiograbber, but RadioSure works quite well, too.
There are a number of download addons for Firefox for grabbing YouTube videos or just the audio portions as mp3 files.
Just tried it, very nice. Thanks!
I’m going back to XP, but not for this. I have expensive applications that I require for work; and, they don’t really work correctly under Win7.
Been looking for something like this. Just tried it. Slick!
This is free and might fix part of the problem. (2 minutes)

Mark for later reading. Interesting thread.
