Trump pro-amnesty? Walker stands firm against pro-amnesty ambush. Lots of changed Presidential immigration ratings.
Donald Trump, Scott Walker and Rick Santorum revealed important things about themselves in high-pressure moments this past week, surrounded by the cameras and tape recorders of national media.
Trump on national TV and on the Arizona border stumbled and let himself get boxed into saying he would offer amnesty to the illegal aliens who aren't the "bad ones." He seemed to be defensive and trying to prove that he isn't hostile to immigrants by also indicating he would like to see legal immigration increased.
But Walker -- ambushed by an illegal-alien family brought to Iowa to confront him in front of the national press corps -- refused to be intimidated, stood strong and unapologetic about the importance of the rule of law, and declined to concede an amnesty..
Rick Santorum in a long interview on PBS also resisted being trapped into talking about immigration issues in the paradigm the mainstream media prefers. Instead, he deftly turned the high-profile TV appearance into an appeal to set immigration policy to benefit workers and poor people.
COMMENTS HAVE (grade) CONSEQUENCES
Our NumbersUSA Grading Team reviewed all grades and comments of the 21 Presidential Hopefuls at the end of the week and demoted Trump in two categories and lowered his overall grade. It was a strange turn of events for Trump who dominated the news all week in his tenacious attempts to stand up for the crime victims of illegal immigration, igniting a national debate about "sanctuary cities" that led to the U.S. House passing a bill to defund such local governments. However, he still has not weighed in on what he would do about interior enforcement policies other than sanctuary cities. Thus, there was not a reason to raise his rating in Interior Enforcement.
Here is a peek at 3 of the 10 category ratings plus the overall Worker-Protection Immigration Grade earned by the three candidates who had entered the week with the three top grades:...... Continued.......
index for later. definitely.
That’s such BS. Walker’s backed by the pro-amnesty establishment and in the last two years was advocating citizenship and effective open borders.
I halfway wonder whether his team staged that confrontation so he could have his Sister Soulja moment to deflect from what he’s still telling donors is his pro-amnesty stand.
(Yeah, Trump did come out pro-amnesty this week as well, but his record of statements is certainly no worse than Walker’s on it.)
“Walkers backed by the pro-amnesty establishment”
I wasn’t aware that Walker had any backing by the establishment in the last 3 elections he won.
Gosh, I wish I knew who this writer is endorsing. I love a good mystery!
You weren’t?
Ha ha.
I don’t think Walker is a BAD guy. I hope not. But all I care about now is his hiring of that liberal cretin who stole the Ms. Senate election, Brad Dayspring. That says it all.
June 27, 2011: Walker Revokes In-state Tuition For Undocumented Students Attending Univ And Colleges In Wisconsin [ONLY gov and state to do so] "- On Sunday, Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker (R) signed his two-year 2011-2013 budget, which included ending in-state tuition for undocumented students attending public universities and colleges. In-state tuition for undocumented students was approved two years ago by former Governor Jim Doyle (D) after the Hispanic community struggled for 10 years to pass it."...
March 2015: We strongly dispute this account. Governor Walker has been very clear that he does not support amnesty and believes that border security must be established and the rule of law must be followed. His position has not changed, he does not support citizenship for illegal immigrants, and this story line is false, she announced in an email to journalists Thursday afternoon.
I made it clear that for me, if somebody wants to be a citizen, they need to go back to their country of origin, get in line, no preferential treatment, Walker said. In terms of what to do beyond that, again, thats something we got to work with Congress on.
Going home to visit family and getting “no preferential treatment” for citizenship is amnesty: if you’ve been here in the US illegally, you’re supposed to be deported and not even allowed to enter the US for 10 years.
This is what the confrontation in Iowa was about in those illegals ambushing Walker, he told them one has to follow the law.
Right, but that was his “Sista Soulja” moment covering up for his actual position—which is pro-amnesty to the level of citizenship.
I’m surprised that Roy BEck is so easily fooled nowadays. Walker will do nothing to secure the border and happily sign any amnesty bill Boehner and McConnell send up to him.
Trump’s remarks on immigration are nothing new. He has previously stated that he would secure the border and then look at illegals who were hardworking and productive with an eye to legalization but not citizenship.
He said he is going for the Latina vote.
Trump is an attention whore, and can only do damage to the GOP primaries.
