Bart Simpson will be killed off in 'The Simpsons'.

The cartoon schoolboy is set to fall victim to a diabolical plan by arch rival Sideshow Bob in an upcoming episode, which will be broadcast in the autumn.

The show's executive producer Al Jean revealed the news during an ATX Festival panel in Texas, where he admitted he was inspired to air the dramatic scenes because he felt "frustration" when the Coyote never killed the Road Runner in the animated children's show 'Looney Tunes'.

Superman, Batman, and Spiderman have each been killed off at least a dozen times. The pre-anouncements werev always good for pumping up lagging comic book sales. Heck, I think even Archie got killed one time.

"Hey! We’re not all losers!"

LOL - yeah, I painted with an overly broad brush but I couldn't resist it in the moment.

That was because the voice actress wanted to leave the show.

Maybe Bart eats his shorts?

My husband's name is Bart and I have wanted to kill him many times.

The Simpsons jumped the shark a few years ago...

The best way to end a show like this is to make the last episode morph into the very first episode. It then completes a full circle and essentially never ends. I was watching an episode from the first season a couple weeks back and it is interesting it see the inaccuracies from hand drawing and jerkiness caused by inaccurate frames. They probably figured the show would be canceled at any moment and didn’t care about the quality that much.

Yes. By all means, let’s play out your childhood fantasies on an entire generations.

What about happen to Bart? How about he grows up and has kids of his own?

So is the show.

Yup - been getting steadily less funny since season 10 or so. I watch it now only when FXX is rerunning good episodes.

Generally the best ep of the season. Partly because they’re not tied to the rest of the season and they can do anything, even kill of Bart.

Indeed. It is a free-for-all that explores storylines just for the hell of it.

They jumped the shark long long ago. Kill the whole show. Once they started incorporating pop culture and celebrity visitors it just got bad. They lost the best writers after about season 7. Phil Hartman was murdered. Conan produced some of the funniest episodes. Nw I find it unwatchable.

That scam worked out pretty good for Hagman.

If not a Halloween episode, maybe something along what they did with Brian on Family Guy. Just need a time machine.

And South Park used to kill Kenny weekly.
