5 Year Old Boy with a Lesson for the Entire World -- And a Lingering Question

Why, since 1973, have we aborted 55 million unborn children? And how many Josiah Duncans' might there have been among them?

The news is rife with sad stories, tragedies and other matters not just hard to ingest, but hard just to watch.

Like a shooting star or a beautiful sighting of the occasional firefly on a summer night, a story or clip will flash across the waves of the worst behaviors of mankind. It is these kinds of stories that spark the depths of the human heart, where, although deeply buried and desensitized, hope, kindness and the better nature of decent people resides. We may be brought to tears, inspired or re-warmed by the best things humans can do instead of the worst.

The story begins in Prattville, Alabama, a town named after industrialist and architect Daniel Pratt and founded in 1839. Known for its huge cotton gin set by the Autauga Creek it was well known as an industrial center until recent times, but now has been placed prominently on the map once again by a five year old boy named Josiah Duncan.

I just came back from Boston on a trip with my wife and children. Saw many street performers and donated $ to their little kitty box. They seemed genuine and normal...
I/we chose to ignore the many homeless people asking for change. I must rethink my opinion on not giving them money after reading this. I’ve always felt I would enable them to continue to beg by donating. Or maybe they will run to get a bottle of whiskey instead of a sandwich...’I’m not sure what the answer is but I will just hope they use it the right way when I do give.

I think the answer is simple. We - as a society throughout the world - have abdicated our responsibility for our fellow man by letting governments take control of the money and the distribution.

And .. how many more brilliant doctors; surgeons; and scientists - with keys to spectacular advancements in medicine, and aeronautical engineers; mathematicians, have we thrown into the trash.

Abortion has been the world’s way of getting rid of the evidence of sharing a bed with someone you’re not married to (and why the left supports it); how can a nation who murders its children survive ..?????

Ezekiel 16:49-50 Comparing Jerusalem to Sodom using the imagery of an adulterous wife:

(NIV) 49 “‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50 They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

Sadly, these two verses describe very well the spiritual state of my country . . . unconcerned.

I remember reading a story about someone who is considered a great Christian writer. I think it was either C.S. Lewis or G.K. Chesterton. He was walking along with a friend and gave a few dolars to a homeless beggar. The friend said "why did you give him the money? He'll only spend it on drink, you know." To which the writer responded "I probably would have, too".
