“Brain Dead” Teenager Awakens From Coma After a Family Friend Prays for Her
Life News ^ | May 18, 2015 | Steven Ertelt

LifeNews has repeatedly chronicled cases of people who were prematurely declared dead or said to be in supposedly persistent vegetative states who ultimately recovered. We have also covered miraculous cases where an act of God appears to be the only reason or only answer as to why a patient has recovered.

File this story under “act of God” or “answered prayers.”

Taylor Hale, then 14, suffered traumatic brain injury when she fell off hood of car while horsing around with friends in 2011. She spent a week in medically induced coma to help her brain heal, but she suffered a brain hemorrhage and her brain has supposedly “turned to mush.”

Doctors declared Taylor brain dead and took her off life support, but hours later she woke up. Right before Taylor came out of coma, a devout family friend visited her and prayed for her recovery. Jeff Stickel, a chiropractor, laid his hand on Taylor’s neck while praying with family.

Hale, now 17, will be graduating from high school on Monday.

Here’s more about her amazing story:

The family of Taylor Hale gathered in her hospital room nearly four years ago. They assembled to say goodbye.

The date was Sept. 17, 2011 — six days after what normally would have been a silly teenage moment spawned a terrible sequence of events that resulted in two parents preparing to say goodbye to their 14-year-old daughter.

Taylor was at a friend’s house on Sept. 11 after the first Waukee High School football game. A friend was leaving, and Taylor and another friend teased him. They didn’t want to leave. They sat on the hood of his car to stop him. He backed up.

Taylor was carried slightly farther, then slipped off and hit the pavement. Hard. She didn’t get up. She didn’t respond. Someone called 911. Someone else called Taylor’s mother, Stacy Henningsen.

Doctors and nurses fought to save Taylor’s life. But at the end of a grueling session, Taylor’s brain sank part way into her spinal canal. No one comes back from that, the doctors told Taylor’s mother, Stacy, and her father, Chuck Hale. Nothing more could be done. Their daughter was brain dead. It was time to make arrangements to take her off life support and discuss organ donation.

That afternoon, Jeff Stickel, a chiropractor and friend of Taylor’s parents visited the hospital. Stickel had wanted to come for some time. He felt God was calling him to treat Taylor. Stacy and Chuck figured he was too late.

He asked if he could pray with the family. They agreed. He put his hands on her neck and prayed for God to heal Taylor. The family thanked Stickel. He left.

Later that afternoon, doctors turned off the life support that had been helping her breath since the accident. And then, something unexpected happened: Taylor struggled to take a breath under her own power. They reconnected life support. As the day went on, Taylor’s brain activity began to increase. Her eyes fluttered. She made mumbling noises, trying to talk.

And finally, Taylor Hale, considered brain dead by science, awoke from her coma.

“It was the hand of God at work,” Chuck said. “That’s the only thing that can explain it.”

This story demonstrates that some doctors don't know as much about the brain as they pretend to.

James 5:16
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

The scenario of this article worries me. What if you are a young, healthy person who got into an accident and was rendered unconscious, but not badly hurt. You are taken to the hospital.
In the morning you wake up, put your clothes on, and go home.
BUT.
There’s an old geezer in this hospital, a man way up in his 70’s, a multi-millionaire who desperately wants a liver and/or heart transplant because he killed his own internal organs with booze & dope when he was young. And you are a genetically perfect match.
For a hefty price, the doctor gives you a shot that puts you in a “medically induced coma”. Then he tells your family that you will never wake up. And if the family is uninformed, they will sign the Donor Organ papers. Now your body belongs to THEM, even though you are still young and healthy and could have walked out of there. I’ve seen it happen, and this $#!+ worries me.

I was once in a similar fate and I owe my life to a dear friend.

In 1997, I had an appendectomy that went horribly wrong.

The doctor nicked an artery while operating.

I lost more than half my blood, so he cut me open from my chest to the pelvic bone, fixed the bleeding artery and after a transfusion I lay in a coma for 5 days.

The nurse turned on the TV while attending to me in coma. My friend was a celebrated chef and had a program, which happened to be on when the nurse turned on the TV.

Sometimes, I can’t stand her voice, so I got up and turned off the TV...

Life happens...

Maybe you’ve seen that, maybe not, but it didn’t happen here, in this case, so ....calm down. Rejoice!

Sometimes, the doctors have NO clue about the end-times they predict.

God bless this little girl for reminding everyone that God is in control. Not doctors, not family, not friends, not the victim.

God is in control.

I hate to say it, but nothing in that article describes a test for brain death. One of the tests for brain death is to remove the patient from the ventilator to see if the resulting increase in carbon dioxide in the blood will cause the patient to spontaneously attempt to breathe. Clearly, this test was NOT done before this girl was supposedly pronounced brain dead. The fact that she was removed from the ventilator and immediately began to breathe on her own is pretty indicative that brain death was never diagnosed in this case.

I realize that it’s very dramatic to say that someone was brain dead and later “woke up.” However, in real life, that just does not happen. A person who is brain dead is dead, period. People do not wake up from brain death any more than they wake up after they’ve been embalmed and placed in a coffin.

I really dislike this purposeful obfuscation between brain dead and brain injured. Sure, it’s dramatic and makes for a good story when the supposedly “brain dead” (but in reality, comatose) person wakes up. But in reality, it confuses people, so much so that the media used the misunderstanding several years ago to describe a severely brain injured woman as being “brain dead” in order to gain public support for her murder by starvation and dehydration. Does anyone remember Terry Schindler? Would it have been as easy to gin up public support for her horrific murder if people understood what brain death really is, and that she was not and never was brain dead (until she was murdered)?

I have to disagree. People have died and have been brought back. Miracles do happen, and God has the power to do anything. He made this world and everyone in it, you would think this would be easy to heal someone’s head.

This is a couple of miles from me. Great story. And I’ll say kudos to Dan Finney at the Des Moines register for writing the original story on this last week.

This story demonstrates that some doctors don't know as much about the brain as they pretend to.

Twice in my life doctors got the diagnosis completely wrong with what was wrong with me...once it almost killed me...

Always, ALWAYS get a second opinion...

Most doctors are highly competent, but they are limited in their knowledge...

A lot of times their diagnosis are knowledgeable WAG...

I’ve seen it happen, and this $#!+ worries me.

You're seen cases where doctors were paid a hefty price and purposely killed a young person to harvest their organs...

Here's a hint...that stuff on the T.V. isn't real...

I'm not saying "brain dead" patients aren't prematurely harvested, but your scenario doesn't happen...
