Baltimore “WAS” once a great city. I saw it in the 40’s-late 60’s, then it went down the crapper under Mayor D’Alessandro III, white Italian Democrap, Nancy Pelosi’s brother.
You know the rest of the story. Even an honest, decent Democrat like Mayor Donald Schaeffer never stood a chance, and the “Great Black Hope”, Curt Schmoke, was cut off at the needs by the black Democratic political machine and never regained his initial balance and potential.
Yesterday on CNN the Detroit police chief was saying that one of the things people in Detroit wanted him to do was get rid of the punks hanging around the gas stations at all hours of the day and night. He’s a subscriber to the broken windows strategy.
Then tonight a street shot of Baltimore shows all to be quiet but there are 30 or 40 people milling around a gas station parking lot waiting for something to happen.
More charter and private schools would help, plus free but mandatory uniforms. The Uniforms would be for ‘only’ two sexes boys and girls.
More opportunities for physical activity during the school day. More social clubs, including christian clubs. More visible incentives or rewards for doing homework or cooperating = field trips and extra credit. More job training in trades, such as electricians, plumbers, masonry, architecture, city planning, organic farming, home nursing and caregiving to elderly or disabled, and of course computer coding.

That might establish a foundation for stability, success, and independence. How would this benefit the race pimps and the people working in the various welfare offices?

This is my mother’s town, probably the same memories you have. She loved it then. She was safe taking trolleys by herself into downtown as a 6yo. It was booming, had high culture as well as good spirit.

When I see gas stations like that, with numerous youths, sloppily dressed, glazed expression and just ‘hangin out’ like crows on the wire, I just keep driving. Actually, it would be the same for any color, if I thought the cluster was waiting to start begging for money or sell dope.

The chief said that the nurse who stopped the thugs from killing Steve Utash said a crowd at the gas station is why it happened the way it did.
She said they were like a pack of wild animals coming out of their den.

Great point. Rudy Giuliani rescued NYC from crime hell using that strategy and neighborhood policing that used citizen watchers with walkie-talkies after block by block purging of criminals by police. Liberals hated Rudy for that until the city crime rate plummeted and neighborhoods were noticeably safer. They rewarded Rudy with a second term. Neglecting little crimes is the sure fire way to seed the big crimes. Whoever thought NYC subways would ever again be free of grafitti? Mayor Warren Wilhelm aka Bill de Blasio is already long on his way to returning NYC to the criminals.
I taught in those same city schools thirty years ago. I was literally cornered by parents who had no earthly clue that teachers of children who called me every name in the book actually wanted to teach rather than play babysitter or jail warden.. Administration officials either ignored the, assaults or, in one memorable case, stood silent as one "parent" backed me into a door and hurled epithets two inches from my face.
These "students" came from homes with no fathers, mothers who spit a baby out every nine month, and who lived on my tax dollars in the form of transfer payments. If you have no responsibility for the consequences of a life lived without structure, you cannot impart structure and respect to your offspring.
And heavens forbid if you're white and have traditional value systems. You become the target for racial insults, threats and hostility. Obviously, you can't possibly understand the student body. What we can't understand is a whole society of irresponsibility and victimhood. So we leave those systems for those that expect and impose rules and standards so that we actually can teach and not play referee and social worker all day.
That brave teacher who told the truth will not last another year in the city school system. He will quit and take his talents elsewhere. This was his final cry.
