MANCHESTER, N.H. Former Florida governor Jeb Bush on Friday once again defended his decision to intervene in the case of Terri Schiavo, a Florida woman whose death capped an intense national debate about ethics and politics, but also suggested that Medicare recipients should be required to outline end-of-life care plans before accepting the benefits.
"I dont think I would have changed anything," he said in response to a questioner during a "Politics and Eggs" breakfast here Friday. "I stayed within the constitutional responsibilities or authority that I had. We changed the law first and then a year later it was ruled unconstitutional and then basically didn't have the ability to do anything. The federal government then intervened and that was ruled unconstitutional. So, she starved to death."
Diagnosed as in a persistent vegetative state, Schiavo, 41, died in April 2005 after a 15-year battle over her husband Michael's decision to remove her feeding tube....

Bush lies. As Governor, he was the only one with power to act, since the Florida judges involved in the case were corrupt.
Sure. Jeb holds the law above protection of innocent life. His priorities are mixed up.
That's the way it seemed at the time.
I can't imagine how constitutional conservatives can stay in the Republican Party if a Jeb nomination is forced on us.
Jethro. You just can’t get him off the bottom of your shoe.
Who was that sniveling sh#t lawyer who said her death was “beautiful” and where is he now?
Ditto.
What's that? She can't? Oh well.
Advance Directives can be anything. They can DEMAND resuscitation and extraordinary measure be taken to prolong life.
People act like advance directives mean only limiting care ... of course, that’s what the social workers and hospitals try to push on people, but you don’t have to comply ... at least not yet
Things must look pretty bad for Little Jebbie, I see Mittwits starting to mumble about wanting Romney to run.
This isn’t going so well for Jebbie. I thought he was supposed to be the smart one?
The RNC remains committed to getting him nominated, by hook or by crook.
Democrats in an R jersey is all they want to allow us to vote for. Must be an amnesty candidate.
How about your Dada and Mom, Jeb? Why are they getting preferential treatment?
IMO, Jeb murdered Terri.
“but also suggested that Medicare recipients should be required to outline end-of-life care plans before accepting the benefits:
And if I refuse to sign? Oh, yeah, right. President Jeb Bush will have a pen and a phone: we won’t need no stinkin directives; ol’ Jebbie can just sign one for all of us with an EO!
Jeb Bush bravely stood aside and let Schiavo die of thirst.
And as President he will bravely stand aside as mass 3rd world immigration kills America. Orale!
Please remind me again... I know Jeb announced his candidacy a couple weeks ago... is he running as a democrat? Or a publican? I forget and it’s not obvious.
The Dauphin has yet to announce, actually. The only major candidates so far are Clinton, Cruz, Paul and Rubio.
I wonder if jeb considers this another, “act of love”?
