I just did my income taxes
It came to a question of “Did I have health insurance coverage” and I answered NO (there was no option for “none of your f%^&ing business”) I wanted to see where this was going to take me.
It then asked why I didn't have coverage and said that under ‘special circumstances’ that my fine/tax could be waived and it listed 5 options- one of which was “It was too expensive” and so I picked that... (inexplicably again there was no option for “none of your f%^&ing business”)
Then it said “Congratulations! your fine/tax fee is waived”
So, apparently you need to buy insurance, unless you don’t
Check a box saying "I couldn't afford it"??
This law is stupider and stupider...

May I ask what tax prep program were you using that gave you this option and answer?
According to the research that I did, the penalty can be waived if there is a financial hardship. Among the many definitions, one piece of evidence requested is a recent utility bill showing a delinquency. Seems to me that it shouldn’t be too difficult OR expensive to accrue that.

Please, comrade, it’s not a fine OR a tax.
It’s an “individual shared responsibility payment”.
It’s always good to share, and everybody should be responsible.

What happens if you go somewhere like H/R block, will the same thing apply there?
I did same, uninsured for whole year, but now IRS is auditing me. Still waiting for refund, I started new job in Nov without benefits.
Auditing will take 60 days.
Just a heads up on Turbo Tax, they keep a record of your filing in a data base.
I heard that if you have one late payment to a utility it exempts you from 0care. That is all the proof you need is that late bill.

How old IS that guy....I had his brother as a professor (thermodynamics) in engineering school...back in the late 1960s...amazing.
