At a SXSW panel discussion, the organizations leaders said that while they want solidarity, theyre concerned that their message about the marginalization of black people is being diluted.
The founders of #BlackLivesMatter are grateful that their message has been picked up by so many people as a rallying cry, but they want other groups that use the essence of the name, such as #MuslimLivesMatter and #LatinoLivesMatter, to find their own slogans.
At a South by Southwest panel discussion, What #BlackLivesMatter Teaches Us About Solidarity, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi said they were concerned about the dilution of their message.
Not to say their lives dont matter, Tometi told the audience, but weve been in a society that continues to marginalize black faces, and so we dont want to see this kind of reappropriation and co-optation of #BlackLivesMatter as a hashtag.(continued)

#BlackLivesMatterExceptToOtherBlackLives
Ooh! Time to write an algorithm!
>>#BlackLivesMatterExceptToOtherBlackLives<<
That is EXACTLY what I thought when I read this crybaby screed.
#ConservativeLivesMatter
#BabiesLivesMatter
#CopsLivesMatter
#GMTA
HUH? I coulda’ sworn it was #blackliesmatter. (To somebody.)
#BlackOlivesMatter
#MuslimLivesMatter and #LatinoLivesMatter are the property of the Democrat Party.
I keep seeing this without explanation, like so much TV crap these days that just assumes you know what it references.
Is some sort of secret decoder being issued for conservatives that refuse to keep up with the decadent culture of the day?
#BlackLiesMatter
I think they’re used to make hash browns or corned beef hash.
But no problems with me keeping my #WhiteLivesMeanSquatUnlessTheyAreFemaleOrFag hashtag going though?
It’s the pound sign in front of a word or phrase used on Twitter, from what I gather.
#BlackBeansMatter
They don’t want anybody to use their # because only their lives matter - not anybody else.
And .. there you have the crux of the problem. Self-absorbed, unwilling to change, learn English, learn how to read, learn respect for others.
We have a guy right here in our complex. He always parks weird in his parking spot - which forces two other elderly ladies to park their cars over almost into the next parking spots; and even then they can hardly get out of their cars because he’s parked so close to them. That’s a sign to me of no respect - but he demands respect from all of us.
Entitled mentality.
PghBaldy has it...”hashtags” are used on “Twitter” in a manner like “keywords” are used here on FR...to search/find threads & tweets later.

And I though I was lost with the TV show references that meant nothing to me.................
I hear you...the older I get, the “simpler” I want it!
What BS! I’m 72 and I’ve lived during the years when blacks have been more accommodated by laws than any other race.
Forced integration (my wife and 3 sibs were students at Central HS in Little Rock), forced busing to other schools, Affirmative Action, Gov’t contracts giving preference to minorities, etc.
Seems that since Prez Ike’s time in the 1950s that rules and laws have gone overboard to indicate that Black lives matter; to the detriment of everyone else.
