Electro-Magnetic Pulse weapon: The fuse is lit and America and the world are holding their breath.
An incredible statement appeared in USA Today concerning the Electro-Magnetic Pulse weapon that is a shocker: The sky erupts. Cities darken, food spoils and homes fall silent. Civilization collapses. Well, not the whole civilization since the destruction depends on the size of the bomb and how high in the atmosphere it explodes.
In recent years, I have been castigated by friends and foes for making far less alarming statements! At least I am no longer alone or in the presence of crazies, complainers, charlatans, and conspiracists. In fact, I am mainstream! Never thought that would happen.
The USA Today article admits that such a damaging, disastrous, and deadly consequence would also be attained by a super solar storm that is in our future. In September of 1859, a solar storm hit North America and Europe (called the Carrington event) and operators of the telegraph system which was the first widespread electrical device were shocked unconscious, and machines caught on fire. And I remind you that the telegraph system was like a tin can operation compared to modern electronic systems of computers, phones, airplanes, etc. Such solar storms occur about every 150 years. We are past due.

We can name it “The Bomba Obama”.
And when everything collapses and our modern-day engineer loses the use of his precious computer and canned programs, the remnant of my generation of engineers will use their slide rules to rebuild this world if it can be.
Solution: hardening transformers or keeping backups. Could be mitigated for a fraction of the cost of a major war in the Middle East or Ukraine.
Now that the GOP runs the budget, no more worries. /s
“And when everything collapses...”
I like how you incorporated doom and generational trashing in a single post...excellent.
Today’s youth will be lost, without a clue.
“Todays youth will be lost, without a clue.”
....much like they are today.
We have to pay more taxes and give up more freedoms to fight this solar menace.
The old WW2 slogan comes to mind.
Drill Sgt. “ You don’t know Sh-t from Shinola!”.
I actually remember Shinola shoe polish.

FWIW Ping!
There are two types of EMP. A solar event would cause some, but not all, equipment to fail on long-haul transmission lines. A sufficiently powerful explosion, whether natural (like a meteor) or man made, at the right altitude causes a high frequency pulse that gets converted into a pulse of high voltage by pieces of metal and wire.
The truth is that nobody can predict in advance exactly how much damage an EMP would cause. But many things that we need in our daily lives function in a chain. Should one of those links be damaged or destroyed, the function cannot work. Our refrigerator, or a compressor at a nearby frozen food warehouse, may depend upon power that must come to it via 6 large transformers and a smaller distribution transformer.
Our internet connection may depend upon a fiber optic cable that has two repeaters in a rural area that are each powered by a local utility.
Should we experience an EMP, some of these systems will not function, but like with Y2K, alarmists fail to appreciate how people who manage and repair such systems can improvise to maintain a system even in the even of damage.
Even so, I would say it is foolish that we have any major utility systems that are not at least somewhat hardened to EMP.
As long as it does not affect the primers in my ammo, why worry?
You just gave me the first laugh of the day.
lol
My pleasure.
Americans have killed 57 million of their own babies, surgically, and tens of millions more, chemically. The U.S. Government has promoted the killing of tens of millions more abroad. There is absolutely no basis for confidence that God will not allow the murder of 300 million Americans to put a stop to the murder of babies.
Let’s hear it for slide rules! LOL
On a serious note, if this happened experienced and older men would be seriously needed and quick.
