And when everything collapses and our modern-day engineer loses the use of his precious computer and canned programs, the remnant of my generation of engineers will use their slide rules to rebuild this world if it can be.

Solution: hardening transformers or keeping backups. Could be mitigated for a fraction of the cost of a major war in the Middle East or Ukraine.

Now that the GOP runs the budget, no more worries. /s

We have to pay more taxes and give up more freedoms to fight this solar menace.

There are two types of EMP. A solar event would cause some, but not all, equipment to fail on long-haul transmission lines. A sufficiently powerful explosion, whether natural (like a meteor) or man made, at the right altitude causes a high frequency pulse that gets converted into a pulse of high voltage by pieces of metal and wire.

The truth is that nobody can predict in advance exactly how much damage an EMP would cause. But many things that we need in our daily lives function in a chain. Should one of those links be damaged or destroyed, the function cannot work. Our refrigerator, or a compressor at a nearby frozen food warehouse, may depend upon power that must come to it via 6 large transformers and a smaller distribution transformer.

Our internet connection may depend upon a fiber optic cable that has two repeaters in a rural area that are each powered by a local utility.

Should we experience an EMP, some of these systems will not function, but like with Y2K, alarmists fail to appreciate how people who manage and repair such systems can improvise to maintain a system even in the even of damage.

Even so, I would say it is foolish that we have any major utility systems that are not at least somewhat hardened to EMP.

As long as it does not affect the primers in my ammo, why worry?

Americans have killed 57 million of their own babies, surgically, and tens of millions more, chemically. The U.S. Government has promoted the killing of tens of millions more abroad. There is absolutely no basis for confidence that God will not allow the murder of 300 million Americans to put a stop to the murder of babies.

It does not take an EMP or a solar storm to put the grid down. There are somewhere around 9 significant substations that if taken out at the same time would put most of the grid down. Cyber hackers attack the grid everyday. Its just a matter of time til it goes down from that.

Will they be able to put the grid back up? Of course they will but it will take months or up to a couple of years. So you need to be able to stay alive for a couple of years. That means having a store of food and if possible an alternative form of energy to a least run lights, a well pump etc.

The clock is ticking...less than two years to go - the Jihadists, Russia, China, and everyone else who wishes us harm know that in less than two years our incompetent and cowardly chief executive/ commander in chief will leave office and we will probably have someone much wiser and determined in charge - they know time is running out on their window of opportunity to attack us with minimal vulnerability - it won't be long, and it may come from several directions.....
