NRA Ignoring Immigration Threat To Gun Rights

Mitch McConnell’s surrender on immigration reform last week could have major consequences for Second Amendment rights.

Deportation amnesty is one of the biggest threats to gun rights because it will add millions of anti-gun voters to the electorate in one fell swoop.

The vast majority of illegal aliens are Hispanics, and Hispanics are one of the most anti-gun demographics in the United States. According to the Pew Research Center, 62% of Hispanics prefer expanding gun control to percent gun rights, compared to 39% of white voters.

Gun Owners of America estimates that amnesty could add more than 8 million anti-gun voters to the electorate. The consequences of this would be nothing short of devastating. GOA explained:

“This is exactly what happened to California — which was once a Red State,” GOA explained in a 2014 alert. “Because of the Simpson-Mazzoli amnesty bill of 1986, the state lurched violently to the left and now can’t pass gun control restrictions fast enough.”

Yet GOA seems to be the only gun group drawing attention to the issue. As David Codrea noted in a series of columns last year, the NRA avoids addressing the immigration issue like the plague.

Now, with Obama’s amnesty order on the verge of becoming law, the NRA is doing a major disservice to its members by failing to acknowledge amnesty for what it is -— a grave threat to gun rights.

We were at a X-mas party several years ago and met a couple from Canada. She’s American he’s well to do Canadian and owns a farm out in East Bumfrick Canada somewhere. They were delightful and in the course of conversation the Canadian gun registration came up. This guy just laughed and said “not everybody registered their guns and there a helluva lot of guns in Canada. So there ya go.

This is where the Democrats RUN CIRCLES AROUND THE NRA.

The NRA gave Joe Manchin (supposedly conservative Senator from West Virgina) a TOP RATING, given his past.

Only problem - he was still a DEMOCRAT, and when it came time to move in on gun control, Manchin was a PARTY MAN first, so he led the way for the Democrats, and gave them cover for supporting the 2013 Senate attempted gun grab.

The NRA needs to learn to BIAS ITSELF. If a guy is a Democrat, but his been pro-gun WHEN IT COUNTED, such as very close votes, then yes - maybe give him a high rating. But if he’s on the pro-gun side of an 80/20 vote, it means NOTHING...and they need to take that into account.

In the end, at the very least, they need to account for the fact that there is a VERY HIGH CHANCE that a Democrat may really be pro-gun, but then have his arm twisted by Pelosi/Reid and still vote to take guns away. At a minimum, the NRA should be VERY LEERY of ANY Democrat that claims to support gun right...given what their party thinks of those rights.
