BTW, what is this stuff about “corporately pushed”?

You know the saying, “you can bring a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink”?

Same thing. We like what we like. Some people may be influenced much by their friends (most likely, as teens and young adults), but ultimately most people are just going to like it, or not. Doesn’t matter how often it’s played.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to see the movie “Stop Making Sense”. It’s one of the few I’ve ever had to go see again at the theatre and check out on home viewing! Did see them live too, Tina was always the coolest chick in R&R.

While you're at it, pick up "True Stories." Then you can have a Talking Heads double feature. It's not a concert movie, but a fictional story about a town in Texas that creates the tapestry for some Talking Heads music videos and other interesting bits. It's pretty off-the-wall.

Hard to believe this guy started out singing doo wop in the 50s and became what is easily the greatest hard rock singer of all time.

"Much nicer to have music in the background of other things we are doing, like washing cars, housework, etc!"

Unless, of course, you had Jeana Tomasina in your video...

Huey Lewis was big, especially after “Back to the Future.”

The Scorpions had some hits in the 80s.

Scorpions-The zoo

Scorpions: Still Loving You

And being a German band, the fall of the Berlin wall was a big issue for them.

Saw Triumph in '81, with a one hit wonder band, Point Blank, at the Aragon Brawl Room.

Saw them again in '83, with Foghat.

Then again a year or 2 later. Can't remember who they were with then.

I remember Point Blank, because they sucked so bad, they were virtually booed from the beginning of their set.

Foghat was legendary by '83. We had worn out so many copies of Foghat Live, by then.

Agree with you in regards to ZZ (one of my favorites as well).
Also, Waylon Jennings and Hank Williams Jr, of course.

Exact number of good Journey songs: zero.

Number of Journey songs even listenable for more than two seconds: zero.

Saw The Scorpions twice in the early 80's. Good band to see.

Still Loving You is a great song. Kind of haunting.

I liked their album with the Berlin Phil.

A little trivia tidbit.
Rudolph Schenker's little brother Michael played lead on 3 songs on the Lovedrive album. Another Piece Of Meat, Coast To Coast and Lovedrive.

(Speaking of Michael Schenker. I loved UFO in the late '70's)

Exactly!

The 70’s trend of eunuch singers is something mysterious.

I’m going to ignore the silly, leftist snobbery notion that being discovered by the masses means the song had to be foisted on them and the Stalinist implication that corporate *necessarily* means evil in order to go straight to a logical issue: how do you expect a song to get voters if it HASN’T been widely heard? I mean, we’re talking ‘80s music on what’s largely a political forum; it’s not like you’re going to get agreement on some blues musician you saw playing a club in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
