Some day her prints will come
can I print some new 3 D Neighbors??
So, now they’ve got a printer that can make three Ds. Big deal. I made four Ds in the fifth grade.
I want a 3-D family.
lol! Are you here all week?
Most people think about the near future of the 3D printer to be just better versions of the printers we have now.
It will not work out that way though.
It will be necessary to have many different types of “printers” all working together to build very complex designs.
Don’t think of a single device, think of a huge number of tiny autonomous devices working separately or in tandem with a large printer.
It will not be necessary to have an enormous printer that can create a house... instead it will be better to have say 100,000 very small devices working together to build a house.
It’s also better to have a huge number of nano-scale machines inside a human body doing repair and construction rather then a large device building biological parts for a surgeon to implant.
The idea is to have the power of the computer merged with capable devices that can build thing in the real world. A large device that sits on a desktop and cranks out plastic parts is very far from what the technology will soon become.
yes indeed and a miniature audience who will believe its real....too...
I would just like to be able to buy one at a cheap price that doesn’t look like it was made out of Tinker Toys and Legos.
The government will want to approve the design of nearly every product that can be fabricated, in much the same fashion that FDA approves drugs for use. Unfortunately, this will be a costly progress that will retard development of many useful items, at least in this country where government controls all.
“...this will be a costly progress”

Opps, typo. Should be “costly process”.
Can the printers make another copy of the unit on the left?
“the eyewear industry hasnt seen much innovation since Benjamin Franklin invented bifocals.”
Either one of two things here: 1) the guy doesn’t need eye ware and is therefore ignorant (lacking in knowledge) on the subject or 2) the guy is just an idiot.
My glasses 30 years ago would be nearly an inch thick and cost me close to a thousand dollars (inflation adjusted) and take me weeks to get. Now with advanced polymers and increased choices I get them in a week at maybe $150 depending on how much I splurge and the Ben Franklin bifocals are progressive lenses that have a multitude of focal points without any lines.
That being said - the gist of the article regarding things to watch for is on task.
Nope. My Manager booked me at the IHOP in Peoria this weekend. I get to make the French fries.
There’s your Suzie Homemaker right there.
No, and Obama can’t 3D print himself a brain either
Great, we can start making nuclear weapon designs and prototypes and bid on US Government contracts to supply arms for national defense. Then we can use the proceeds to fund our own political party.
