Two months later, too many young men must still contemplate their mortality in the way of Ferguson.
The drive to Ferguson prepares me for Ferguson. Once out of downtown St Louis, county after county radiates a pervasive poverty: abandoned malls, boarded-up stores, homes in disrepair, the occasional fast-food place, gas stations and, finally, the Ferguson Market & Liquor store on West Florissant Avenue.
Around the corner on Canfield Drive, I pull into the parking lot at Reds BBQ. The owners have set up outside their establishment because a few nights before, protesters caused extensive damage to the restaurant in a show of defiance. This is two months ago, when the history books began to document Ferguson, before more than a thousand protesters came to St Louis this weekend to stand against the continuation of the polices self-named low intensity warfare against young black men. But in the August heat, I look around at the burnt-out buildings and the roped-off areas and I finally understand, fully, that I am in the midst of the continuation of the LA riots of the 20th century, where the beaten black male body has been executed publicly, in the 21st.
Michael Browns memorial is set up halfway down Canfield. The memorial is constructed out of stuffed animals, flowers, homemade signs. Hands Up Dont Shoot is itself memorialized on drawings, and t-shirts....

Black racism is tiresome. They hate whites. I get it. They cause all kinds of problems for themselves. I see that all the time. And they blame me. It’s quite boring.
Wow. What great advice. Don’t surrender, get shot. Sounds right. Fookin’ idjits! Stand up to THE MAN! You too can be a wanna be martyr.

The comments are nauseating too
and I think it is conservative posts that are being removed
And evil
"Hands Up Don't Shoot" was confirmed BS about the third day of this "event." They just can't let it go.

“Our sons know they could be the next Michael Brown”
Good.
You think I care about the anxiety level of Violent Racist Criminals?
Have the Michael Browns of the world and their supporters ever wondered what would happen if they got jobs and stopped committing crimes? Would the “war on young black men” just possibly come to an end? Is this idea just crazy, or is it crazy and racist?
Despite the expenditure of trillions in the war on poverty.
Stop wasting taxpayer dollars on these animals.
So their sons are thugs too?

Surrender? Nah. Keep firing at the cops till your 9mm jams.
Vonderrit was a fractious youth
Spoiling for a fight.
He always took his Ruger 9
When he sallied forth at night
But grimed for lack of proper care
His chamber would not free
Leaving him, alas, outgunned
17 to 3.
Well, if I attack a police officer and then come at him again while his gun is drawn and pointed at me, then I will become Michael Brown.
>> too many young men must still contemplate their mortality in the way of Ferguson.
Young men of all colors can distance themselves from a shortened life span by staying in school, working for a living, respecting others, and avoiding drugs and criminal behavior.
Interesting that leftists are approving of violent protests.
These same leftists would be outraged if Tea Party activists responded with violence after the IRS targeted them.
If they act like Michael Brown, then, yes, they will be the next Michael Brown.
