World economic leaders are being urged to rally around a plan to let government do what it does best - spend money - in an effort to buoy a global economy that remains slack and slowing.
The effort comes as six years of crisis fighting have lapsed with little guarantee the world economy is on a stable footing. Germany is in danger of slipping into recession, China has slowed, and U.S. policymakers are concerned a fresh bout of global weakness will stymie the U.S. recovery as well.
International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde issued a blunt call on Thursday for the United States and Germany to open the taps and spend more on infrastructure, a stark reversal from the Fund's recent fixation on holding down government debt and lifting economies through "structural reforms" that have proved politically difficult to implement.
"It is a question of doing it, not just talking about it," Lagarde said....

That's the dumbest title for an article I've ever read. Where do they think the funds come from for increased spending? Sure, you can simply run the printing presses and then experience the hyperinflation the post WWI Germany experienced. Or you can run a deficit and force the next generation to cope with it.OR, you can cut gov't taxes on corporate and personal income and have the gov't get the hell out of the way. And while you're at it, stop over regulating the economy...reign in the EPA and other agencies who have taken over from a do-nothing Congress. Do you think it is an accident that the fastest growing economy now is the one which has slashed gov't taxes and spending; reducing the federal gov't share of GDP from over 37% to a little under 25%? The economy: Chile. Gov't does not create prosperity; prosperous people do. Oh, BTW Obozo, this war on the rich is stupid. First, a rising tide lifts all boats. Second, how many of you were hired by a poor person? Idiots...

I’m all for global depression, wars, plague, and pestilence.
Actually, I’d just settle for elites and politicians being hanged.

The economy like most other things runs in cycles. First it goes slow, then it speeds up, then it slows down again.
The governments seem to think they can moderate the economy, just like they think they can moderate the environment. They really can't. They can spend a huge amount of money to give the illusion of improving the economy but they are just squandering accumulated wealth.
Economies are improved by leaps like the industrial age, the combustion engine, the digital technology boom.

Socialism is great, until you run out of other peoples’ money. Where do they think gub’mints get money? Taxpayers are fed up with all the spending. You cannot spend your way out of debt.

...urged to open WHOSE purse?
To: 2ndDivisionVet
I have the answer!
The government can spend money that it stole from the economy to help the economy!
If the government can’t steal enough money from the economy to help the economy, it can borrow money using the economy’s credit!
To top it all off, we’ll call it “investing!”
Brilliant!

There were already bailouts 2008-2012, so obviously more won’t help.
Getting government out of the way, such as letting us drill for more oil/gas and ending the stupid shutting down of power plants to reduce CO2 levels while doubling electric bills would do far more.
