President Obama made a surprise video appearance at the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Gay Games in Cleveland on Saturday. Joining Greg Louganis, Lance Bass, the Pointer Sisters, and Broadways Andrea McArdle and Alex Newell in celebrating the event, Obama said, Since 1982 the Gay Games have given lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender athletes and supporters around the world a chance to come together to compete, celebrate, and inspire others.
President Obama, who is vacationing on Marthas Vineyard, noted how the country has changed since the games began in 1982. Weve also seen America change in that time, even since 2006, when the games were last held in the United States in my hometown of Chicago. Weve come a long way in our commitment to the equal rights of LGBT people here and around the world, he said.
As international crises continue to dominate the world stage, the president took a break from his vacation and busy golf schedule to record the message for the Gay Games, boasting about his accomplishments on behalf of the LGBT movement since becoming president. Im proud of my administrations record and of the citizens whove helped push for justice.
The president had a special message for those living in countries that persecute LGBT individuals, explaining what he believes to be the very idea of America. You should know that the United States stands with you and for your human rights, just as our athletes stand with you on the field at these games, he said. After all, the very idea of America is that no matter who you are, what you look like, where you come from, or who you love, you can make it if you try. Thats who we are. Thats who we should continually strive to be.
Obama wished the athletes well. Were also a country that loves competition, so lets get these games underway. Good luck to the athletes, have a great time in Cleveland and Akron, and go, Team U.S. A.!
The Gay Games is thrilled to have President Obama take his time to show his commitment to the Games mission of inclusion, participation and personal best, said Hollie Ksiezyk, co-chair of the 2014 Gay Games.
Fellow co-chair Steve Sokany agreed. It was a special moment that no one in the arena will forget and a great way to kick off the exciting Games week, he said.
Journalist Connie Schultz, wife of Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, tweeted about how deeply moved she and Sen. Brown were by the opening ceremony:

Not only gay but tiny. In the 1990’s my first wife was a senior executive with John Hancock insurance, which was a sponsor of the Champions on Ice Tour so I got to have dinner with most of the big names in ice skating. I don’t know if they’d technically qualify as midgets or dwarfs, but my goodness were they small.
OMG!!!!! ANAL SEX....ANAL SEX.....ANAL SEX....>PERVERSION is ALL that Democrats care about!!!! That and KILLING BABIES!! DISGUSTING and we are ALL paying for this!!!
Clinton was the first BLACK President......Obama is the first GAY or BI-SEXUAL President.
My FAV!!!! What a girlie boy.
I always knew Obama was an athletic supporter. I’ll bet he has held quite a few nut sacks in his life.
“...., and go, Team U.S. A.!
Satire?
He sure seems to have a personal stake in bowing down and kneeling to the LGBT community for some reason.../s
Being queer must be very special to him.
This is our leader — the perversion president, a tool of Satan leading this nation to destruction.
Yeesh.
Is “cornhole” one of the games?
How about hide the salami M4M, or sword swallowing?
Inquiring minds would like to know /sarc.
Damn, out of the country in Cambodia. Can somebody do me a kindness and please DVR the 10k felching relay?
Team circle jerking.
I get choked up too - with bile at any mention of Journalist Connie Schultz, wife of Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown.
What she and they don’t say is that the terminally smug Schultz had to quit being a real journalist (?) for conducting politically-related activities on the paper’s dime. Just another socialist happy to spend someone else’s money.
It should be noted that the IOC, notoriously zealous about the use of Olympics/Olympic, have allowed the Special Olympics and the Paralympics to use the term (or a portion thereof) but stopped this organization from using the term Gay Olympics. Possibly one of the few things they’ve done right.
As others have said, when a wildly disproportionate number of actual Olympians are gay or lesbian, this event is like a pickup football game held the day after the Super Bowl. Surplus to requirements, especially when any openly gay Olympian would get the star treatment from agenda-driven media outlets.
Their so-called solidarity with trannies could pose a major problem. If a male claims to be a female and walks to victory in the women’s 100 meters, will they cheer? Boo? Claim an unfair advantage?
Nobody can explain the requirements for entry beyond a verbal claim to sexual activities or preferences having nothing to do with competitive athletics - because there are none. ‘Gay for pay’ becomes ‘gay for play’ if someone is so inclined.
As usual, the ‘pride’ everyone claims to experience is fool’s gold - just like the meaningless medals they hand out.
Any odds on favorites in the Fudge Packing event? What about Tesbagging? Pole Vaulting?
Ugh! The hole of creation has been abandoned!
Is obama on the basketball team?
Of course.
