I have been trying to find out if there's a list out there of the people, especially those still in power today, who endorsed Bush over Reagan in 1980.
Also could you provide the link? Thanks
Rove but he was young pup then ..probably Bob Dole.
Yeah I knew about Rove and Dole, but I haven’t seen much else.
Did George Will?
Dole was running himself. The first I ever heard of Bush was an NPR report calling him a “moderate conservative.” He won Iowa, and was very well networked there.
the CIA
Well I guess the better question would be, who, that is in power now, endorsed someone other than Reagan?
RWR, John Anderson, Howard Baker(?), Bob Dole, Phil Crane, GHWB (sitting).
I voted for John Anderson who went 3rd party - but that was back when I was just starting to come out of my pointy headed Leftie life of ignorance. ]
Anderson was the guy running on the 50 cent/gal gasoline tax platform. That’s about $1.50 today.
Mark Levin says Will endorsed Baker, then Bush over Reagan in 1980. But it’s hard to say just what that means unless you see the actual columns. I don’t remember Will fighting very hard against a Reagan nomination. Anyway, isn’t it all ancient history by now?
Looks Like W.
His biggest donor was the father of John Hinckley.
I remember fighting with a Navy Officer when I was working with the Corp of Engineers about Bush vs Reagan. I was a Reagan supporter.
This book may have a some information.

HINCKLEY AND BUSH FAMILIES WERE CLOSE FRIENDS

I was brain-dead back then so I can’t even remember why I liked him. Anderson said he was a fiscal conservative and moderate on social issues, as I recall. Lots of people were running, and it all seemed so chaotic and reactionary to Jimmy Carter. Even Ted Kennedy gave it a go to show how delusional it all was.
But it came down to Bush and Reagan .and Im wondering if Dole backed Bush at that point.
