Eric Cantors loss is historic. No sitting House majority leader has lost an election since the office was created in 1899. While Cantors loss was a stunning surprise, the warning signals were around for a while:
1. Cantor managed to muddle his message on immigration. His direct-mail pieces claimed he was foursquare against amnesty.

“Cantor managed to muddle his message on immigration”
Oh, I don’t know about that. I think it has been pretty clear over the past couple of years and that was one of the problems. Trying to change it with mailers did not work.
Well, how about the fact that the base does not like the GOP being like liberal Democrats? Captain Obvious has been screaming that in their deaf ears for decades.
Im confused on this. Some are saying its the first time its ever happened. Can we get clarification on whatever happened in 1899
Cantor lost for one reason.
He did not fight for American against Obama’s destructive policies and program
The office of House Majority Leader did not exist before 1899.
Ah, so that’s what they mean. Thanks for clarifying :)
The office of House Majority Leader wasn’t created until 1899 as I understand it.
Let's just consider that for a minute...
The Tea Party is "dead"? Voters are against Amnesty? GOP-E needs more campaign money? Voters want more conservative value based candidates? There are so many choices. Maybe they should go crying for some consultation from Karl Rove.
His problem was that he was to mushy on his opposition to amnesty. The Rat plan is to get an amnesty bill, any amnesty bill through the House and then gut it and replace it with blanket amnesty in the Senate and ram it through in conference.
As others have said, the office of House Majority Leader did not exist prior to 1899 and this is the first time a sitting HML has been defeated in the primary.
