News broke today that Sprinkles Cupcakes will install New York City's first 24-hour cupcake ATM at its Upper East Side location next week. The unit has a 760 cupcake capacity and can dispense up to four sweet treats at a time. That's pretty coolbut not as cool as a vending machine that makes fresh pizza in under three minutes. Behold Let's Pizza:
(VIDEO-AT-LINK)
Invented by entrepreneur Claudio Torghele, Let's Pizza machines were initially designed and manufactured in Northern Italy. Customers choose between up to four kinds of pies, and watch through windows as the machine adds water to flour, kneads the dough, layers on the sauce, assembles the toppings, and bakes the pizza in an infrared oven in just 2.5 minutes. There are fun windows so customers can watch their pies being made. It can produce 90 to 100 pizzas before it needs to be refilled.
In a piece for The Gate, writer W. Andrew Powell (who shot the video above) said, "In all my travels, I have never seen anything like it. ... While its silly and not exactly the best pizza youll ever eat, its still amazing, and kind of fun." But it still has to be better than the slices sold for $1 at some NYC pizza joints.
The machines are available in Italy and the UK, and, according to a 2012 interview with A1 Concepts' CEO Ronald Rammers in PizzaMarketplace.com, they may soon be making their way to the United States. I'm starting the campaign to get one in the mental_floss offices now.
i think the rotation speed for cooking is a bit too fast, too much cheese ends up pooling in the middle. if they could slow it just a bit it might look better and have less bare outer spots.
HA!
;D
My smaller snakes are sleeping in little “caves” made out of Dollar Tree plastic ‘crock’ dog bowls, I’ll have you know!
:D
Good re-purposing.
Cool but if the crows ever team up with the dogs, we’re doomed.
;]
They’re terrible for dogs but if you cut a little doorway into them, they’re perfect for small pet homes.
I managed to snag some heavy crockery dog bowls for their water but our dollar stores rarely have them in stock any more.
You can find a lot of useless junk in dollar stores that *is* useful, once you ignore the original purpose.
:)
Are the fast food workers who want to unionize reading this?
Does it get paid $15 an hour?
We're almost there.

In the video, the cameraman said it was the best 3 Euros they spent in Europe, so if 3 Euro's then = $4.10.
I prefer the regular kind of windows.
so if 3 Euro’s then = $4.10.”
$4.10 plus cost to comply with U.S. government regulations = $15.00.
I am not sure I would want to eat a pizza that goes from mixer to your mouth in 2.5 minutes.
The crust can’t possibly have time to acquire “crust”
The unions will probably start moving to block them, and we all know who the politicians listen to.
