It is OK if you think that government is corrupt and incompetent, I think that too.
It is OK to have weapon in your home, and will and knowledge to use it, and it is very good if you think that TV is full of crap.
I think too that S. is gonna hit the fan, and that it makes sense to have bug out location and bug out bag, and lots of cans and ammo.
So we are clear that we agree that all of the above (and lots more) make perfect sense. But one thing does not make sense and that is to let everyone else know that you are thinking like this.
Why?
Because it makes you different from (great) majority of folks around you, and what should be one of the basic and first imperatives?

Believe me there are even more than a few FReepers who are ardent prepper haters who will turn on you if they can in a heart beat should the shtf. Don't believe me? Go back and read some of my prepper threads.
Preppers’ PING!!
How do I find my local survival group? Do I connect with the nearest Tea Party or network through people I meet at a shooting range?
I had a good friend who was a Romulan. not literally, of course, but he could just be completely unnoticed in any room or group of people, to the point of startling them when he finally talked, even though he’d been standing there for minutes, born with a cloaking device. Exact opposite of charisma, two minutes later Sherlock Holmes would have a difficult time describing him; I played music with him for 17 years semi-professionally (he was a brilliant drummer) and it would still be hard to do a police sketch.
Start visiting the local Army Surplus stores.
The Mormons can be a good source of like minded folks who have a lot of institutional knowledge and often will share it for the asking.
Cody Lundin points out that building good relationships with your neighbors -if they are decent people- can create one of the strongest survival strategies; a few folks who know, trust and live near each other are going to have a much better chance of survival and a better standard of living during any ensuing period of stress. Around here we have had informal neighborhood discussions about what to do when the quake hits, where we’d set up sanitation, who has generators. Grow your own survival group, so to speak.
Do your homework BEFORE you need them .
Check out 'prepper"sites , as well as 'Survivalist' sites.
The time of preparation is NOT when the SHTF ! If so , you are already out of luck !
Have a 'Bug in ' program already set up, as well as a 'bug out' plan, if things get nasty !
The time to prepare is not when it is alrady hitting the fan !
Boy Scout motto : " BE PREPARED " !!
Thanks for the site! Good info.
Place and ad in the personals.
Visiting to purchase AND network? I’m ready for 7 days solo but I have zero relationships which is what I’m most concerned about now. Just don’t know where to start looking for that.
Blend into the community, .. become the 'grey man' (un noticeable)
Move supplies during the night
Know your neighbors , and their skills (ie: mechanic , contractor, gardener, gunsmith , masonry, etc.)
Have an unremakable residence , not an ostentacious "Mc- Mansion" , just something that meets your needs.
Have food and supplies that you are willing to give up, so that your family survival supplies remain intact (deception).
Cache supplies hidden either in the house , or buried outdoors ( food, weapons , ammo , tools, etc. )
Do not wear ostentatious clothing such as Camo, ghillle suit, armlament, armoured vest, to your neighbors.
The intent is for you to 'blend in' to the neighborhood, while 'prepareing', quietly .
Well we are one of only two people who have good sized gardens in our neighborhood, but that’s life. So I guess we already stand out.
We have loads of dandelions, so I plan to forage those, and other stuff, so that they know we don’t have lots of stuff to eat, because if we did we wouldn’t have to gather weeds.
One lady decided to try and grow some squash seeds that she got free in the mail, but that was it.
The other people with gardens are on the other block, and we have sometimes traded tomato starts.
save for later.
One. After that, it isn't a secret any more.
I wasn’t sure what you were saying there about 7 days solo, and networking, and zero relationships, but if you start visiting the Surplus stores and talking about the gear and to the clerks, you should be able to find out where prepper type events are taking place, and what they do.
If you are enjoying a conversation, then invite whoever you are talking to, to come over for BBQ and beers.
“Have food and supplies that you are willing to give up, so that your family survival supplies remain intact (deception).”
That’s something I do need to work on. Once I get a basement for the real storage, it will be easier to figure out.
Consider doing the same for ammo
If someone is "raiding" for more supplies, if you remove the gunpowder from ammo, the primer, alone , will lodge the lead in the barrel
and result in an exploding gun barrel, when the perp really needs it, perhaps leading to his demise !
A stealther....
