In an interesting interview [link at URL] to the New York Review of Books, George Soros shared his ideas on many topics including Europe, Russia and the Ukranian crisis. He also presented his new book [link at URL] The tragedy of the European Union: Disintegration or Revival? Whether one agrees or disagrees with Soro's interpretations and arguments, it is hard to deny that the interview is extremely insightful and gives a lot of food for thought. I offer a discussion of the part of the interview devoted to Ukraine.
George Soros emphasized the necessity of a large-scale technical and financial assistance program for Ukraine.
... "Ukraine is a potentially attractive investment destinantion. ... The new regime in Ukraine is eager to confront that task," Soros said.
... Earlier George Soros called for an EU Marshall Plan for Ukraine. He mentioned that "Europe, true to form, demanded a lot and offered little... It's very important to respond, and to respond in the right way... Something like a European Marshall plan for Ukraine."
...
Some experts allege that geopolitics is not Soros' area of [sic] expertise as a finance trader. This hardly holds as international finance requires profound knmowledge and understanding of international politics and geopolitics. That is why successful international financiers are usually well versed in many areas related to international finance.
The opinion of George Soros about a Marshall Plan for Ukraine is very appropriate and timely from the geopolitical and international finance points of view.
...
On April 6, 2014, George Soros somewhat unexpectedly visited Ukraine and held a number of meetings.

How is it that these trolls you always mention have been on FReeRepublic longer than you?
Go Johnny Cash.
I don’t know. It’s a mystery to me.
Thank ye very Much!
George Soros the man Id most like to see In A RING OF FIRE
Sounds to me like Pootie-Poot might just take care of our little Soros problem for us.
Politician bleeds country dry.
People get angry and protest.
Politician has protesters murdered by his lackeys.
People impeach politician.
Politician stuffs as much of the country's cash in his pockets as he can and runs away.
Even more powerful and more corrupt politician from a foreign country takes revenge for the toppling of his puppet by stealing even more from Ukraine than the original corrupt politician did.
I saw all this, and it disgusts me.
You saw all this, and think it's wonderful.
“How is it that these trolls you always mention have been on FReeRepublic longer than you?”
Wow! I’ve only been on here for like a decade, and purked for several years before that.
Does that entitle you to some kind of a twinky prize, or sumpin’? (or is it just a sign of your arrogance, and lack of ability to critically think?)
A no. But I wonder why troll is one of your invectives, newbie. And I hope you didn’t purk on your carpet.
Ukraine has been a corrupt hole, and a home for the most violent mafias in Europe since it’s creation, after the fall of the Soviets. Endemic government corruption on a scale that would make even a Russian Oligarch blush has been the norm since inception.
It didn’t culminate in a coup until the Obamunist U.S. government, looking for a way to “get back” at being embarrassed by Putin after Syria, got involved and started throwing BIG money around. The Ukrainians are just the latest victims in someone’s global shell game. Like the Tunisian’s, the Egyptian’s, and Libyan’s, too.
I’m a big picture kinda guy. I was trained that way, and it has served me well.
You obviously aren’t.
I still see Obama and Putin as bigger threats.
Nobody. That’s what happens here lately.
“Who on this forum is supporting or defending him, exactly?”
To the Right-Sector trolls, that is anyone that doesn’t swallow the Svoboda official line whole, no matter different today’s line is from yesterday’s.
“The Right sector trolls?” Are they the same “trolls” you were worrying about a few posts ago?
The old NAZI is like an insect, feeds on death & destruction. Whatever he advocates will probably be the exact opposite course to take.
I dare him.
First, Svoboda is a tiny minority party. Putin propagandists like to speak as if this splinter group were itself the Ukraine freedom movement. While they certainly have tried to ride that movement's coattails, they are not the movement.
Second, Soros is precisely the opposite of Svoboda's platform. He is pro-immigration, pro-globalization, pro-multiculturalism. Everything Svoboda claims to value, he opposes.
It didnt culminate in a coup until the Obamunist U.S. government, looking for a way to get back at being embarrassed by Putin after Syria, got involved and started throwing BIG money around. The Ukrainians are just the latest victims in someones global shell game. Like the Tunisians, the Egyptians, and Libyans, too.
Concurring bump...nice rant.
A neocon claims to not have an opinion about Soros and doesn’t understand why conservatives don’t like him.
That sums up neoconservatism in a nutshell.
