In an interesting interview [link at URL] to the New York Review of Books, George Soros shared his ideas on many topics including Europe, Russia and the Ukranian crisis. He also presented his new book [link at URL] The tragedy of the European Union: Disintegration or Revival? Whether one agrees or disagrees with Soro's interpretations and arguments, it is hard to deny that the interview is extremely insightful and gives a lot of food for thought. I offer a discussion of the part of the interview devoted to Ukraine.
George Soros emphasized the necessity of a large-scale technical and financial assistance program for Ukraine.
... "Ukraine is a potentially attractive investment destinantion. ... The new regime in Ukraine is eager to confront that task," Soros said.
... Earlier George Soros called for an EU Marshall Plan for Ukraine. He mentioned that "Europe, true to form, demanded a lot and offered little... It's very important to respond, and to respond in the right way... Something like a European Marshall plan for Ukraine."
...
Some experts allege that geopolitics is not Soros' area of [sic] expertise as a finance trader. This hardly holds as international finance requires profound knmowledge and understanding of international politics and geopolitics. That is why successful international financiers are usually well versed in many areas related to international finance.
The opinion of George Soros about a Marshall Plan for Ukraine is very appropriate and timely from the geopolitical and international finance points of view.
...
On April 6, 2014, George Soros somewhat unexpectedly visited Ukraine and held a number of meetings.

Specific person X says Y is the case.
But X is a jerk.
Therefore Y is not the case.
Surely, Lfc, you realize the irony of complaining about ad hominem arguments on a thread that is dedicated to singling out a specific person - George Soros - for abuse.
This thread is a masterclass in ad hominem reasoning from its very start.
“They don’t realize how small his fund is or how limited his resources actually are.”
It’s not HIS funds, but how they are used to buy politicians, who are NOTORIUOSLY cheap to buy, and fund troublemakers at key points.
That doesn’t take vast amounts of money, especially when the pols you bought are more than willing to use TAXPAYER money, to do it for you.
A lesson he likely learned observing the NAZI’s, and how easily many of them were bought off.
The thesis I am arguing against is the ongoing implication that Soros is somehow the architect of Euromaidan - that he has the power to topple dictatorial regimes just by visiting countries.
In reality, he does not have such far-reaching powers.
Against both? Sure... This isn’t about a person, either, as you use a Red herring to make this about hating a man. This is about agendas, money, abilities to influence currency, Euromaidan PR inteviewing him... Euromaidan PR interviewing him? Says alot about Euromaidan PR...
You’ll have to explain irony to him too.
So in other words, he believes that the Ukraine should be unstable and prone to political chaos, but not too unstable and chaotic, so that international financiers can come in and exploit the situation without too much fear of it going totally nuclear.
Better still, in Soros’ mind, if an unstable and ineffectual Ukraine is beholden to economic and military assistance from the E.U., so that international financiers can monopolize both domestic resources as well as international aid, all while threatening to turn off the firehose of international aid should the Ukrainians get too uppity.
Yeah, I can see why he’s salivating, the evil son of a *****.
he has gone so far as to change his name from Gyorgy Schwartz to Georgie Soros to distance himself from his .... origins.
another self loathing Jew. a very vile skillful and dangerous one
Slow down. You’re hyperventilating. Catch your breath. Think about what you’re trying to write. Try to make sense.
Changing your name is a mortal sin.
Please, give us a break.
I’m shocked at the Soros support, by a couple of posters. His track record is well recorded on this forum, yet we have cheerleaders on here defending him.
He’s an evil man.
This is another Libya and Syria, IMHO... I think we need to stay out of it. Putin is a thug, but I still believe that we need to stay out of it... For instance, Libya and Syria:
Remember when we offensively intervened in Lybia? With “defensive charter” NATO? Was Lybia a member of NATO? Why do we intervene in Lybia, Syria, and Serbia, but not where there is no oil or Muslims (Serbia/Kosovo)? Why do we not intervene in Rwanda or Sudan or other situations where there are Christians being hacked to death by the tens of thousands (Sudan) and where there is no oil (Rwanda)?
How did Benghazi work out in Lybia?
Didn’t McCain get some photo ops with some rebels in Syria?
When Obama apparently was thinking about intervening in Syria -— wasn’t it about 2 years too late? Whom would intervention in Syria then have helped before Americans resoundingly said NO to the idea of intervening in Syria?
Thats why Im sticking to Meshuge Mikey as unseemly as that may be.....
That’s the problem. The Ukrainian people are so greedy that they don’t want to be robbed by a Putin-supported cleptocracy, and that evil Soros bamboozled them into not wanting Putin’s president to steal from them. Otherwise, if not for Soros, they’d gladly let themselves be robbed. Putin himself is worth $75 billion that he stole from the Russians. He must be worried that Soros will tell the Russians about it. Then, my good Lord, some of the FReepers are truly going to hate Soros for ruining Putin’s reputation.
Save your strawmen.
You saw what happened as much as I did.
Now they have to face the consequences of it, just like we are doing with Obama. Wishing and trolling don’t change the facts on the ground, no matter how hard you try.
Nothing happens in a vacuum, every cause has an effect.
Good for you. It’s like having the courage of a boy named Sue.
ahahahah and Im Wearing All Black until ALL Men Are Free!!
Hes an evil man.
Yes, very. Why ANYONE would support or defend him, especially on THIS forum, is mind-bogling.
