The Obama administration is working around the clock to come up with ways to punish Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine. But will any of them work?
Behind the scenes, Obama administration officials are preparing a series of possible battle plans for a potential economic assault on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine, an administration source close to the issue told The Daily Beast. Among the possible targets for these financial attacks: everyone from high-ranking Russian military officials to government leaders to top businessmen to Russian-speaking separatists in Ukraine. It’s all part of the work to prepare an executive order now under consideration at the Obama administration’s highest levels.

That will present a problem, though.
Europe gets its natural gas from Russia via pipeline. We would have to deliver our natural gas in LNG tankers.
To my knowledge, there is no operating LNG terminal at any American port -- though several are being constructed. And, in any event, we probably don't have access to enough LNG tankers to deliver the gas -- if we could load it.
Obama is going to find the EU very cool to any broad-ranging sanctions.
I stopped reading right there.
Mister Obama is (to be polite) unskilled at negotiating with international adversaries.
One suspects that his peeps are working (normal hours) to come up with face-saving, tough sounding rhetoric that will play to low-info voters here in the U.S., but will not even slow Mister Putin's conquest down.
One also suspects that the alleged "news" media will make a big to do about it.
Just guesses, I would love to be wrong.

For the US to “punish” Russia will require American taxpayers to underwrite cheap fuel to the EU.
We are broke, that just will not happen.
