How I would have written the Arizona Religious Freedom act ~ Vanity

Posted on 02/27/2014 3:55:08 PM PST by GraceG

I think the Law while good intentioned concerning religious freedom and government overreach it was just plainly worded wrong. Here is a few things i would have changed.

1. Remove the word Religion - Religion is a hotword that causes all the MSM and weak spined RINO-crats to get all worked up in a tizzy dizzy. (I hate doing it, but it removes whole invalid as it may be sepration of church and state weasel words the libs like to use to get bills killed intheir tilted courts.)

2. Replace the word "Business" with "Artisan"

3. Rename the bill to "Artistic Expression Protection Act"

4. Re-word the bill to emphasize "Commissioned Work or individualized Consumer Products" are a product of an Artist and you cannot legally compel an Artist under force of law to produce something using their own artistic talent that is against their own personal beliefs or customs or if they are are uncomfortable with the subject matter.

5. Make sure the Bill also defines that any occupation involving an artistic services like Photography, Disc Jockey, Gourmet Catering, Entertainment, or Cultural Ceremonies are also covered by the "Artistan Rights" as well.

This would be how you write a bill that could easily pass even in a blue state that would prevent the bullying abuse that we see when a caterer or photographer is bullied by a group that wishes to make a point by bullying.

It is not just about Religion, but about protecting the occupation of an artist as well as their artistic expression.

I ask you, how would a conservative feel if they were forced to cater a luncheon for a bunch of commies against their will? How would a Stanist Sculptor feel about beign forced to sculpt a sculpture or Jesus (not that I actually give a damn).

This would protect Poltical groups as well as Religious groups as well.

What do you think?

I think sometimes we conservatives get a little too knee jerky like the libs and try to draft "Daft" Leggislation without thinking about the inevitable counter arguments that will probabaly get the damn thing thrown out by a tilted liberal court or get slaughtered in the court of public opinion.

We need to be consistent with out principles of conservative, but we also need to be devious in terms of war gaming this stuff out so that it stands the test of times and activist judges.

Additional Note: Sometimes I think that even the conservatives that draft legislation like this lack a certain degree of situational awareness that causes them to draf poorly worded legislation that end gets picked apart by easy strawman attacks from the left.

Instead we should draft legislation that makes it damned clear WHAT our core values and princicples in an easy to read manner that makes any counter argument seem petty and insane.

I want to force the Left to Admit they don’t give a crap about the Artists they claim to love so much if they get in the way of their petty agenda of increasing government control.

A simpler bill would be to just to state that everyone should be treated the same way a follower of Islam is. The government will do back flips to make sure Muslims are never forced to do anything against their religion, thus we just want to be treated the same way a Muslim is. It is in the vein of Howie Carr who always says if he gets jammed up, he just wants to be treated like an illegal alien.

I am always on the soap box on that specific point here.

Endless preaching to just the choir has predictable results when the others vote, which is the POTUS election years.

My favorite example of a so-con argument big winner is that ‘Little Sisters of the Poor’ ad. That is dynamite.

The other extreme is Todd Akin.

Here ya go, I see Republican after Republican get on TV and repeat the exact same line on minimum wage and then get buried with Dem counter arguments, they act like they are totally unprepared for them.

Watch Stephen Moore take on Van Jones and Ralph Nader on the minimum wage and beat every argument back. And the minimum wage is very popular.

Crossfire: Will raising the min. wage help the economy or cost jobs? (part 1/3) vid, Stephen Moore, Nader and Van Jones

It can be done if Republicans want to win and learn how to form arguments that are targeted to others outside the choir. .

Hey, some people just love to lead with their chin. You know sometimes I feel there are people, who claim to personify the conservative movement, who will never be satisfied until we get only 25% of the vote.

Unfortunately that is how I see it.

Lets go with a 10 state strategy and message because as Mark Levin indicates, the country's voters haven't changed at all in the past 30 years back with Reagan.

I learned to avoid personality cults long ago.

I’ve also seen a lot of this forum who justify trying to purge conservatives in safe states and giving Dem Senators a pass by arguing “You don’t get it. We need to focus on getting conservatives elected in our RED STATES. Screw the states that voted for Obama”.

Given that 28 states voted for Obama, I guess they figure they can somehow win a majority nationwide by only taking the other 22.

>> the country's voters haven't changed at all in the past 30 years back with Reagan. <<

Hell, nevermind Reagan.

The electorate and politicians haven't changed at all since 1789, either. This is why state legislators will select wise elder statesmen as U.S. Senators if we repeal the 17th amendment, rather than select whatever party hack greases their palm the most. It's a guaranteed utopia that will lead to a U.S. Senate filled with 100 Thomas Jeffersons... or even BETTER yet, 100 Mark Levins.

;-)

My opinion is that the besetting sin of Republicans in general and GOPe in particular is its tendency to shy away from a principled fight - thereby abandoning the high ground and getting slaughtered in retreat. A classic example was GWB's statement that the British intelligence had learned that Saddam was trying to buy uranium from Africa. That may not have resulted in an Iraqi stockpile of uranium. But it was what we thought we knew, and what we acted on.

It wasn't just GWB who believed it, either - the Democrats demanded the opportunity to go on record with a second vote so they could get on board before the invasion. And yet, when the expected cache of uranium didn't materialize there was no stand up defense of an obviously strong logical position. Only a kind of "modified limited hangout" as Nixon's people might have put it.

Same sort of thing when Valerie Plame was "outted" - she hadn't been covert for over five years, and even if she was outted, it wasn't illegal. And yet we were treated to the spectacle of a Special Prosecutor nomination!!!

That bears on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act as follows:

The Constitution mentions Jesus Christ. That is, at the end it says,
done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the States present the Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven and of the Independance of the United States of America the Twelfth In witness whereof We have hereunto subscribed our Names
That would have been offensive to a country which was proud of being anything else but Christian. Even Jews wouldn't have said that.

Therefore, Christians should stand on their hind legs and run right at the anti Christian biggots who dare to say that Christians can be forced to violate their principles in a way that Muslims cannot. But what do they - what do you - do but try to find some way to evade the fight!!

NO SALE!

Not sure this is what you had in mind when you pleaded for hits on another thread and linked this one, but there it is.

I don't quite see it that way... but it's a great line - and funny.

They should have left ALL of the social issues alone until AFTER the election.

The ONLY issue is Obamacare. Job-killing, economy-killing, private medical insurance-killing Obamacare, and how it directly threatens the liberty of every person who remotely considers themselves a “Free” Citizen.

The ONLY thing that matters right now is getting elected and getting the numerical majority necessary to repeal this damned Obamacare and securing the repeal with a veto-proof majority.

But there’s a reason the GOP is called “The Stupid Party”.

NOTHING gets reversed unless our people get in a position to reverse it.

Seriously...

WHAT sense does it make to bring up ANYTHING other than what actually has the Dems on the ropes?

And when your opponent is on the ropes, do you anything other than pound the living bat snot out of them until they’re on mat unconscious?

Any question like “What do you think of gay marriage” should be answered with “How is THAT relevant to repairing the economy that the Democrats have wrecked in the last 6 years?”

“How does that put people back to work?”

“How does that help people get their health insurance back, since Obamacare made them lose it?”

This isn’t rocket science... you’d think that some of these dumbasses would get it through their heads and figure out how to play the game by now...

You’d THINK that, anyway...

RE :”They should have left ALL of the social issues alone until AFTER the election.”

It wouldn't be so bad if these were approached in a way that had a chance to win on the anti-homo issue.

This rout is just an extension of the disastrous way that the birth control mandate was approached in 2012, then the embarrassing retreat,

Watch that Little Sisters of the Poor ad,
see??
a winning message can be made. Its not impossible.

He’s good.

I’d like to see Walker go for the gold in 2016. But he’s got to start getting face time out there to get known.
