I despise breathing cigarette smoke. I also despise having to pay higher insurance rates in order to cover smoking-related diseases. But I support the freedom of others to make the choice whether or not to smoke. (Just don’t force me to breathe it or pay for it.)

I’d prefer that people choose not to smoke, but I’d prefer even more that the government get out of our private lives. Why are libs “pro-choice” on abortion, but not pro-choice on smoking? And can you imagine the uproar if tattoos and piercings were banned (in the interest of health, of course)?

No problem with that.

I also despise having to pay higher insurance rates in order to cover smoking-related diseases.

Smokers have long paid higher insurance premiums than non-smokers.

But I support the freedom of others to make the choice whether or not to smoke.

As do I.

(Just don’t force me to breathe it or pay for it.)

You never have been forced to do either.

I’d prefer that people choose not to smoke, but I’d prefer even more that the government get out of our private lives.

You won't get an argument from me.

Why are libs “pro-choice” on abortion, but not pro-choice on smoking?

Because they have a misconstrued definition of the word "choice."

And can you imagine the uproar if tattoos and piercings were banned (in the interest of health, of course)?

Uproar over proposed bans on such things come from all sides of the political spectrum.

You need to do more research. Lifetime healthcare costs are actually lower for smokers than non smokers.

They die at a younger age, and healthcare costs skyrocket for older Americans.

So, your lifetime healthcare costs to the system will be more than for the average smoker.

“I despise breathing cigarette smoke. I also despise having to pay higher insurance rates in order to cover smoking-related diseases. But I support the freedom of others to make the choice whether or not to smoke. (Just don’t force me to breathe it or pay for it.)”

If you are overweight, I despise you for having medical problems I have to pay for. If you eat fast food, I despise you for clogging your vessels with fat and causing you to have heart problems I have to pay for. If you drink alcohol, I despise you for drinking and causing medical problems I have to pay for. If you have a genetic disease given to you by one of your parents, I despise them for not aborting you so you wouldn’t have medical problems I would have to pay for.

When one human thinks he/she is superior to another due to “x” and wants to change other people to be more perfect like them, we have wholesale slaughter at some point to make all people alike which is never going to happen and millions die needlessly - that has been tried by despots the world over.

You are an individual and I don’t care what you do with your life as it is up to you. We need to butt out of other people’s lives because there is no perfect person - Jesus Christ is perfect and He’s the one to talk to about our own choices in life.

At the moment, I am smoking a Pall Mall menthol light cigarette. It’s my house and I can do whatever I want - so far no one has arrested me for smoking in my house but there are those who would want to do just that. They will want to come after you if you do anything like I listed up this post.

When one of us is arrested for being free, the rest, including you, will also be arrested for something. It’s a choice - don’t judge others and want something done about them, because you will be next. I wish people could see this happening but they excuse themselves, being sure they won’t be one of those removed from society for the good of the rest of society - that will be death to them, too.
